Brain Electrodes Tackle Severe Depression

By Abbott Alison / Source: Nature.com

Severely depressed patients who do not respond to conventional therapy may be helped by deep brain stimulation (DBS), according to the most-extensive study to date of the experimental procedure.

In a clinical trial in Toronto, Canada, 12 out of 20 patients who had stimulating electrodes placed in a brain area called the subcallosal cingulated gyrus showed significant improvement in their depression, with seven of them going into full remission.

The benefits lasted at least a year, according to the results published this week in the journal Biological Psychiatry1. Patients in the study had failed to respond to cognitive therapy, antidepressant drugs and electroconvulsant therapy.

The Tao of Making Money

By David Cameron
Creator of The Wealth Fundamentals Pack

Tao means Way. The Tao of Making Money is the Way of Making Money. What natural principles does making money follow?

Making money is part of nature, and struggle is a symptom that you are out of harmony with the flow of nature, how things work. The word prosperity originally meant "to be in the flow".

I would like you to grasp something simple yet elusive to many. First, let us hear a few words from the wise and successful, and then we can move on to the Tao of Making Money:

"To live through an impossible situation, you don't need the reflexes of a Grand Prix driver, the muscles of a Hercules, the mind of an Einstein. You simply need to know what to do." - Anthony Greenbank

"It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult." - Seneca

"The world is not to be put in order; the world is order, incarnate. It is for us to harmonize with this order." - Henry Miller

"If we do not know what port we're steering for, no wind is favorable." - Seneca

"There is a science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches, and once these laws are learned and obeyed by anyone, that person will get rich with mathematical certainty." - Wallace D. Wattles

"The reality of life is that your perceptions - right or wrong - influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place." - Roger Birkman

"Our life is what our thoughts make it." - Marcus Aelius Aurelius Antoninus (121-180), Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher.

"What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step." - Antoine De Saint-Exupery

"Vision is not enough unless combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps unless we also step up the stairs." - Vance Havner

"Nothing comes from doing nothing." - William Shakespeare

"To your subconscious mind the solutions to your problems of poverty is to become rich, but it is logically invalid for it to pursue this course of action if it has been told that it will make you a bad person." - Simon Hall

"To be ambitious for wealth and yet expecting to be poor; to be always doubting your ability to get what you long for, is like trying to reach east by traveling west. There is no philosophy which will help man to succeed when he is always doubting his ability to do so, and thus attracting failure." - Charles Bandouin

Do you see a pattern there? Well, I will spell it out for you. Here, then, is the Tao of Making Money:

Wealth Consciousness + Mindset + Strategies + Action = Great Wealth Guaranteed

How to Strengthen Your Immune System

By Mark Tyrrell, Creative Director of HypnosisDownloads.com

Your immune system is amazing. It consists of a wide and complex array of different defense mechanisms, all designed to keep you healthy or get you healthy; to keep you safe from those pesky microscopic invaders commonly known as ‘germs’.

Staying safe and well is a major purpose of all organisms. To do this, you need to be protected.

Firstly, there are many barriers, chemical and physical, which make up what we might call ‘body traps’ to prevent germs getting into the body. These include the skin and the mucous lining of your airways. Other defense mechanisms include coughing, vomiting sneezing and itching. Secondly, there are a whole host of specialist cells that actively attack germs, neutralizing or destroying them in the blood stream.

8 Keys to Instant Charisma

By Tina Su / Source: ThinkSimpleNow.com

There is a simple fact of human nature that states we all want to be liked. Don’t be afraid to admit it. If we think about it, underlying many of our actions, we are really seeking ways to validate ourselves and to fulfill this desire of being liked.

Have you ever met someone and instantly took a liking towards them? You can’t explain why, but you feel a fondness and you want to do things to help them. I’m not talking about sexual attraction, but a genuine and innocent feeling of fondness towards another person.

In a job interview, you are more likely to be hired if the interviewer likes you as a person. In a business situation, you are more likely to get deals done and gain favors. In a personal situation, you are likely to gain trust and loyal friendships.

When we decide that we like someone, it is a psychological process that we cannot quite articulate. It’s not a secret that we make decisions emotionally and justify them logically. So, does this mean that we can influence an emotional decision that happens subconsciously?

I believe that decisions can be influenced. I know that the qualities of a likeable person can be cultivated and proactively developed. Do you want to know how to develop the skills to be likable?

Meditation Slows Progression of HIV

By Kate Melville / Source: ScienceAGoGo.com

Researchers at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) report that the practice of mindfulness meditation can halt the decline of CD4-T cells in HIV-positive patients.

CD4-T cells are the "brains" of the immune system, but they are also the cells that are attacked by HIV, which slowly eats away at the CD4-T cells and weakens the immune system.

Scientists have known for some time that stress also accelerates CD4-T cell decline, making the combination of stress and HIV a potentially deadly combination.

"This study provides the first indication that mindfulness meditation stress-management training can have a direct impact on slowing HIV disease progression," said UCLA's David Creswell. "The mindfulness program is a group-based and low-cost treatment, and if this initial finding is replicated in larger samples, it's possible that such training can be used as a powerful complementary treatment for HIV disease, alongside medications."

The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life

By Marilyn Elias, USA TODAY

Our attitudes toward time shape every part of our lives, and yet few recognize how this subtle fact can sabotage careers or vault them skyward, wreck marriages and make people happy (or not), suggests a book in stores today.

The Time Paradox: The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life (Free Press, $27) by Stanford University psychologist Philip Zimbardo and John Boyd, research manager at Google, is not a time-management book.

In fact, the one-size-fits-all approach of self-help books often fails because it ignores different time perspectives that really drive how people live, Zimbardo says.

After surveying more than 10,000 adults over the past 30 years, he and Boyd have identified six ways in which people view time. Nobody has only one way of viewing time, but how high or low you rank in each category is linked to your odds of being happy, mentally healthy or successful, he says.

Psychiatrist's Paranormal Ability to be Tested by James Randi

During a summer of superhero blockbusters, Dallas psychiatrist Colin A. Ross, M.D. is perfecting a superpower of his own. Dr. Ross' application to the $1 Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge has been received by the James Randi Educational Foundation.

Dr. Ross can make a tone sound out of a speaker using nothing but an energy beam he sends out through his eyes.

The $1 million prize serves as a challenge to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The James Randi Educational Foundation states in its Challenge rules that he is only interested in a demonstration of the claim. He does not want theories about how the paranormal claim works.

Therefore, Dr. Ross is not required to explain how his demonstration of the human eyebeam works -- only that it does work.

Is There Proof That We Are All Psychic?

By Danny Penman / Source: Daily Mail

Dr Chris Roe places a pair of enormous fluffy earphones over the head of a blonde 20-year-old woman.

He carefully slices a ping-pong ball in half and tapes each piece over her eyes.
Then he switches on a red light that bathes the woman in an eerie glow, and leaves the room. After a few moments, a low hum begins to fill the laboratory and the woman begins smiling sweetly to herself as images of distant locations start to pass through her mind.

She says she can sense a group of trees and a babbling brook full of boulders.
Standing on a boulder is her friend Jack. He's waving at her and smiling. She begins to describe the location to Dr Roe. Half a mile away, her friend Jack is, indeed, standing on a boulder in a stream.

Somehow, the woman has been able to "see" Jack in her mind's eye, even though all of conventional science - and common sense - says it is impossible.

Is this simply a bizarre coincidence?
Or could it be proof that we all possess psychic powers of the type popularised in such films as Minority Report?

The Quantum Physics of Remote Viewing

By Gerald O'Donnell
Founder of The Academy of Remote Viewing

The introduction of consciousness as a major factor in the equation of reality by modern quantum physics is at the core of one of the major paradox of so-called psychic research.

According to quantum physics, the thought of the observer has an influence upon the result of an experiment. Therefore, if we are co-creator of our reality by mere thought, the natural imbued skepticism of many scientists and their methodologies introduce a negative bias in the results that they would obtain in thought experiment such as “remote viewing” etc.

In other words, in order to achieve 100% success at proving the efficacy of “remote viewing or influencing ” one would need to deal with scientists and tests subjects that are of the firm belief of the easy achievement of such mental feats, which would automatically be called a bias experimental protocol by the skeptical scientific community.

That is why the best results at remote viewing were always achieved within intelligence and military secret units that pragmatically only cared about bridging time and space effectively using mental technologies, and were not the least concerned about peer recognition and the fear of being ridiculed.
