How to Fight a Raging Bull with Your Mind

MindTrip Magazine
The investigator, dressed incongruously in sweater and tie and holding a small metal box, stands in a bullring. He taunts a bull with a gesture of his hand. Suddenly the bull faces him and charges. Taking a couple of steps back, the investigator presses a button on the box to send a radio signal, and the bull halts in mid-stride. It turns away. The animal’s natural aggression has evaporated.

This risky behavior-control demonstration, conducted in Spain in 1963, was the signature experiment of José Manuel Rodríguez Delgado, a physiologist and scientific showman who explored the varied responses of the brain to electrical stimulation.

During the middle decades of the twentieth century, Delgado grew notorious for using electricity to elicit rage, anxiety, pleasure, drowsiness, and involuntary movements in his animal and human subjects. Critics complained that he was paving the way for mind control; Delgado countered that changing the functioning of brains through electrical stimulation was not necessarily a bad thing.

How to Fall Asleep In Less Than 30 Seconds

Does it take you a while to fall asleep at night? Do you find your mind dwelling on various thoughts before you're able to finally drift off and relax into sleep?
Do you find that you just aren't sleepy enough when it's time for bed?

Realize that if it takes you 15 minutes on average to fall asleep each night, that's more than 91 hours per year that you're wasting. This is the equivalent of spending more than two 40-hour workweeks just lying in bed waiting to fall asleep.

And if you have insomniac tendencies and take more than an hour to fall asleep each night, you're spending more than nine 40-hour weeks on that pointless activity — every year. That's a tremendous amount of wasted time.

If you'd like to change this situation, keep reading. I'll explain the details and share a process for training your brain to fall asleep almost instantly when you're ready to go to bed.

5 Famous Books Inspired by Dreams

Jonathan Livingstone Seagull

By Beverly Jenkins / Source: ListVerse

Everybody dreams, but most of the time our dreams are nothing more than the subconscious mind processing thoughts and feelings from our waking hours. Yet, every so often a creative individual has a vivid dream which inspires them to put pen to paper and create a great work of literature. Below are five examples of famous novels that were inspired by their author’s sleeping mind.

1. Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer

In June of 2003, suburban Arizona mother Stephenie Meyer woke up from an intense dream in which two young lovers were lying together in a meadow, discussing why their love could never work. On her website, Meyers says, “One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately.”

The Longevity Formula of a 256-Year-Old Chinese Herbalist

By Martynas Jocius,
Author of Mind, Productivity and The Good Life

According to the official records, herbalist Li Ching-Yuen was born in China in 1677 (although he himself claimed that he was born in 1736). Throughout his long life, he constantly practiced herbalism and martial arts.

In 1930, the New York Times newspaper printed an article in which they published official Chinese government documents that were uncovered.

These documents, dating back to 1827, contained official congratulations on Li Ching-Yuen's 150th birthday. Later documents, dating back to 1877, contained official congratulations on his 200th birthday.

How did he do that?

The Ageless Secrets

Sex is the Secret to Looking Younger

Dr David Weeks, former head of old age psychology at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, said people need to be aware of the benefits of having a healthy sex life, particularly in their later years.

He said sex has a number of health benefits which can make men and women look between five and seven years younger which includes; it causes the release of endorphins, the 'feel good' chemical which acts as a natural painkiller and reduces anxiety aiding sleep; exercise boosts circulation which is good for the heart; and it also causes the human growth hormone to be released which makes the skin look more elastic.

Is Yoga a Sex Cult?

By William J. Broad / Source: NY Times

The wholesome image of yoga took a hit in the past few weeks as a rising star of the discipline came tumbling back to earth. After accusations of sexual impropriety with female students, John Friend, the founder of Anusara, one of the world's fastest-growing styles, told followers that he was stepping down for an indefinite period of "self-reflection, therapy and personal retreat."

Mr. Friend preached a gospel of gentle poses mixed with openness aimed at fostering love and happiness. But Elena Brower, a former confidante, has said that insiders knew of his "penchant for women" and his love of "partying and fun."

Few had any idea about his sexual indiscretions, she added. The apparent hypocrisy has upset many followers.

"Those folks are devastated," Ms. Brower wrote in The Huffington Post. "They're understandably disappointed to hear that he cheated on his girlfriends repeatedly" and "lied to so many."

But this is hardly the first time that yoga's enlightened facade has been cracked by sexual scandal. Why does yoga produce so many philanderers? And why do the resulting uproars leave so many people shocked and distraught?

Can Women Enlarge Their Breasts With Hypnosis?

Women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts go with the general notion that surgery is the only effective tool for breast enlargement. However, many women shy away from it, since the surgery is expensive and there are many health risks involved.

But what if you could enjoy the benefits through an entirely natural and non-invasive method such as hypnotherapy?

The concept of breast enlargement via hypnosis has reportedly been proven. A British counseling psychologist, Felix Economakis, who is also a hypnotherapist, claims that he can help women enlarge the size of their breasts by three cups just by hypnotizing them.

Was Steve Jobs a Mystic?

Are people like Steve Jobs more than just savvy businessmen and inventors? Or did they have access to some sort of higher power or wisdom that allowed them to go beyond what normal people accomplish?

I've often wondered about this. This is what I found.

In the international bestselling biography, Steve Jobs, by Walter Isaacson, the following was said about Steve:
"Throughout his life he would seek to follow basic precepts of Eastern religions, such as the emphasis on experiential prajna, wisdom or cognitive understanding that is intuitively experienced through concentration of the mind."

20 Questions to Help You Fall In Love

Love That Lasts

In this age of endless connection, we are more disconnected than ever and most relationships don’t go very far beyond the surface. Maybe it’s because we hold ourselves back or maybe it’s because we no longer have the tools to genuinely connect, like face-to-face and via conversation.

In order to build the foundation for a relationship, you need to create a meaningful connection, and this comes when you truly connect with who the other person is.

How to Easily Become a Miserable Loser

Misery is everywhere. Everywhere you look. That’s a fact. I see lots of it around here in Eastern Europe where I’m living now. Eastern Europe is a dreary, unhappy, miserable place.

I also saw it in New York when I was there last year. Lots of unhappy people. New York is an unhappy place, especially in the winter. The subway cars get overcrowded. Everyone is grumpy. Then the snow falls and there are all kinds of delays. Millions of grumpy people can’t make it to work on time. Then the snow melts and you have this ugly black slush everywhere. Nasty. There’s no other word to describe it. It’s really nasty.

But most of all, I see this misery right here on the Internet. Like right on my own blog. I write a random post, hit publish and moments later an angry swarm of criticism from people I don’t even know fills up the comments area.
