Are You Already Rich?

By Stuart Goldsmith,
Author of Seven Secrets of the Millionaires

Now we arrive at the deepest secret of happiness associated with wealth. Also, this is the most difficult initiation test of all seven. Yes, knowing when to stop is actually more difficult than making it in the first place!

Remember one thing. The aim of life is to happy. Money is one way (yes, a big way) in which you can achieve happiness, but don't lose sight of the fact that it is happiness you are after as a final goal, not money.

If you ever make any real money you will be so caught up in your astonishing success that you will find it very hard to quit. You will be tempted to work harder and faster to get more whilst the going is good. Then, if you hit a lean time, you will work harder and faster to try to get back what you have lost. In short, you will always be working harder and faster. Knowing when enough is enough is the most difficult challenge you will ever face.

Most people do not face this challenge because they rarely make enough to live on and almost never create a surplus. However, it is useful to ask yourself the question at any stage of your life, even if "flat broke" as I hope to prove.

This is one of life's big questions, and I believe it would help you to try and answer it right now. In this single question I believe is embodied the spirit of the next thousand years - no small claim!

What is the question?

Switching Off TV May Boost Memory

Source: Reuters

Turning off the television, picking up a crossword and eating more fish could be the key to a better memory, an Australian survey has found.

Results of the on-line survey of almost 30,000 people, conducted as part of Australia's science week, also found people who read fiction had better memories than those who don't, while heavy drinkers found it more difficult to recall names.

But neuro-psychologist Nancy Pachana said television was not necessarily bad for memory, with wider health and diet and an active lifestyle more crucial to a good memory.

"Your memory is dependent on good health and good mental health," Pachana, from the University of Queensland's school of psychology, told Reuters Monday.

Music Makes Your Brain Happy

By Randy Dotinga
Source:
Wired Magazine

As a rock producer, Daniel Levitin worked with Stevie Wonder, the Grateful Dead and Chris Isaak. But the music business began to change, and a disillusioned Levitin turned to academia, where a career in neuroscience beckoned.

Sixteen years after he made the switch, Levitin is an associate professor at McGill University in Montreal and one of the world's leading experts in cognitive music perception.

In his new book, This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession, Levitin explores research into how our brains process the works of artists as varied as Beethoven, the Beatles and Britney Spears, and why they make us feel so good. Wired News picks his brain about how it all works.

Wired News: Are there any myths about music that neuroscientists have exposed?

Daniel Levitin: I think we've debunked the myth of talent. It doesn't appear that there's anything like a music gene or center in the brain that Stevie Wonder has that nobody else has.

There's no evidence that (talented people) have a different brain structure or different wiring than the rest of us initially, although we do know that becoming an expert in anything -- like chess or race-car driving or journalism -- does change the brain and creates circuitry that's more efficient at doing what you're an expert at.

What there might be is a genetic or neural predisposition toward things like patience and eye-hand coordination. (On the other hand), you can be born with a physiology that gives you a pleasant-sounding voice, but that doesn't guarantee you'll have a career as a singer.

Working Too Hard Bad for the Spirit, warns Pope

Source: USA Today

Working too hard, even for those leading the Catholic Church, is bad for the spirit, Pope Benedict XVI said Sunday as he greeted tourists at his summer residence outside Rome.

During his traditional weekly appearance to bless the faithful, Benedict quoted from writings of St. Bernard in the 12th century meant for the popes of his time on the subject of overwork.

Benedict quoted the saint as advising pontiffs to "watch out for the dangers of an excessive activity, whatever ... the job that you hold, because many jobs often lead to the 'hardening of the heart,' as well as 'suffering of the spirit, loss of intelligence.'"

"That warning is valid for every kind of work, even those involved in the governing of the church," 79-year-old Benedict said.

Having had a vacation in the Italian Alps in July, Benedict is spending what remains of August and much of September, in the papal palace in Castel Gandolfo, a lakeside town in the Alban Hills southeast of Rome.

The pontiff will interrupt his holidays to make a day trip on Sept. 1 to a religious sanctuary on Italy's Adriatic coast and to fly to his homeland, Germany, for a pilgrimage Sept. 9-14.

Mind Tricks For Attracting Beautiful Women

By J.D. Fuentes
Creator of Sexual Key

You want sex with beautiful women.

Good.
So let’s get started; the clock is ticking.

Want to get someplace new, fast? Start by looking at a map.

Why be one of the millions of men who’ve spent their lives thinking things like,
“That girl liked me—how did I mess things up? What did I do wrong?” If you really want to feel your seductive muscles beginning to bulge, if you really want to start feeling powerful—if you really want to see your seduction skills get bone-slicing sharp, so that you start seeing genuine sexual results, fast— then, for the next few minutes, you’ve got to put aside the gritty, sticky, haunting little details, and look up at the Big Picture.

The Big Picture, when it comes to seducing women, is the realization that women are profoundly different from men. Not just on the outside, but on the inside as well. Not just behaviorally, but cognitively. Not just because of social conditioning, but because of neurology. The brains of men and women are physically different in specific, measurable ways. Putting aside the details for now, just remember that women seem different because they are different. And understanding exactly how they are different, understanding how they think, will give you a profound and permanent and ever-growing advantage over the men around you.

So:
A woman perceives and thinks differently than you.
She inhabits a completely different subjective universe than you.

Actions that make perfect sense to you can seem irrelevant or off-putting to her.

Actions that seem ridiculous to you can be intoxicating and erotic to her.

Suppose you want to drive someplace new, someplace you’ve never been. Let’s
call it, for convenience’s sake, the Land of Sexual Delight. Do you just hop in the car and hit the gas? Well, that might work—of course, you might be celebrating your 83rd birthday by the time you get there. If you want to get there while you’re young-- soon— as fast as possible—starting right now, I suggest you start with a map, so you can plot out exactly how to get where you going.

Five Tibetan Exercises to Unleash Your Energy

By Lucy Beale
www.LucyBeale.com

The Tibetans are your key to great shape, balanced hormones, strong bones and high energy.

Exercise 1

Standing with arms out, turn towards your right hand. Start by making 3 complete revolutions and work up to 21. Go very slowly at first, being sure to stop if you feel a bit dizzy. Should you get dizzy, pick a spot on the wall and look at it until you feel clear-headed.

Exercise 2

First lie flat on the floor, face up. Fully extended your arms along your sides, and place the palms of your hands against the floor, keeping the fingers close together. Then, raise your head off the floor, tucking the chin against the chest.

As you do this, lift your legs, knees straight, into a vertical position. If possible, let the legs extend back over the body, toward the head; but do not let the knees bend. Then slowly lower both the head and the legs, knees straight, to the floor. Allow all the muscles to relax, continue breathing in the same rhythm. Breathe in deeply as you lift your legs and breathe out as you lower your legs.

David Copperfield says he's found Fountain of Youth

By Jane Sutton
Source:

The man who made the Statue of Liberty appear to vanish may soon claim to do the same for unsightly bags and wrinkles.

Master illusionist David Copperfield says he has found the "Fountain of Youth" in the southern Bahamas, amid a cluster of four tiny islands he recently bought for $50 million (26.4 million pounds).

One of his islands in the Exuma chain, Musha Cay, is a private resort that rents for up to $300,000 a week and the other islands serve as buffers to keep prying eyes away from celebrity guests on the white sand beaches.

Copperfield is coy about his reasons for the Fountain of Youth claim, but the man best known for entertaining with grand deception insists his archipelago also contains the legendary waters that bestow perpetual youth. Seriously.

"I've discovered a true phenomenon," he told Reuters in a telephone interview. "You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ... Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they'll fly away. It's an amazing thing, very, very exciting."

Copperfield, who turns 50 next month, said he had hired biologists and geologists to examine its potential effect on humans but he's not inviting visitors to swim in or drink from it just yet.

7 Inventive Ways to Go to Sleep

By Christian Hoopes
Source:
AmericanInventorSpot.com

Each night of your life it's the same routine: same boring bed, same boring pillow, same boring pattern of reducing alpha waves, generating theta waves, lowering EMG, entering delta sleep, and finally engaging in rapid eye movement. Aren't you sick of it?

Thanks to a few innovators, however, sleep doesn't have to be boring. In fact, when armed with the right accessories, it can be so exciting you'll regret having slept through it. You'll have to get a camcorder to record yourself sleeping just so you can watch it when you're awake and see how much fun you had.

Here are 7 Inventive Ways To Go To Sleep:

1. Chillow

We've all been there. We love the ‘cool' side of the pillow but as soon as we flip to it, all the coldness gets absorbed into our head and dissipates, leaving us to languish in a state of unreasonably warm pillowness until the other side cools down sufficiently. Until now, the only alternative was to build a multi-million dollar pillow-flipping robot who would lift your head off the pillow, flip the pillow, and lay you back down every 20 minutes or so, stopping only when he would need an oil change, which is every 2 hours.

But now the ‘Chillow' is here. Say goodbye to Flipbot 2000, say hello to cool, comfortable nights. The Chillow is a technological marvel on a magnitude of the combustion engine, or ESPN. Filled with a space-age blue gel, all you have to do is top it off with some water and the Chillow will do the rest. It's guaranteed to keep your head nice and cool all night long, and if your brain freezes and you die, they will return all your money, minus a 95% restocking fee. Thank you, Chillow!

2. Japanese Dream Machine

Tired of running away from Tommy Lee Jones for a crime you didn't commit every night? I know I am. Fortunately, the good people at Takara inc. have stepped up to the plate to make sure your dreams are nothing but sweet.

Called "Yumemi Kobo" which is Japanese for "dream workshop," the devise boasts the ability to influence the user's dreams. Armed to the teeth with an arsenal of speakers, a voice recorder, small lights, a picture frame, and even a fragrance dispenser, the Yumemi Kobo is designed to ‘determine' when you enter REM sleep (the stage of sleep at which dreaming occurs) and only activate accordingly.

So say you want to dream about, say, having a pirate adventure. You load up a picture of pirates cavorting about, you fill the fragrance dispenser with, what-rum? And you slowly drift off...only to be woken up by the smell of ocean funk, flashing strobe lights, and the pre-recorded sounds of clanging sword fighting. If you're at all able to get back to sleep, your dreams are almost certain to be those of being chased by a robot through a disco for music pirating.

3. Coffin Bed

Maybe you're a Goth who is into such things, maybe you think it would be interesting, and maybe you're just plan disturbing, but some people out there probably would enjoy the feeling of sleeping in a coffin. Thanks to the Casket Furniture company, the wait is over.

According to their site, this ‘long awaited' item can be yours for only a little over $4,000. While the rest of us suckers stretch out on queen-sized down mattresses, you'll be hunkered away, dreaming the dreams of angels, in a big wooden box that you can't roll over in and which might close on you and suffocate you to death. At least burial won't be a problem.

Disturbingly, their site also indicated ‘locks and latches' are available at an added price. Oh, thanks. How much to have it filled with flesh-eating bacteria, too?

How to Increase Sales Using Hypnosis

By Steve G. Jones
Clinical Hypnotherapist

Better Living With Hypnosis

Much of life is about the sale. We negotiate in every relationship we are in, one way or another, or in a sense sell our ideas each time we communicate. Some people are naturally gifted it seems and able to convince others that the product they have or the idea they feel is best, really is the right way to go. If you would like to develop this kind of negotiation power and influence over others, it is possible through hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy that helps you become
better at selling starts from within by selling yourself on the concept that your views are valuable to others.

The best sales people out there have one thing in common. They are confident. They know without a doubt, or at least are able to convince others that they know without a doubt, that what they have to offer is something you need. This can be anything from the latest kitchen knife to the oldest type of insurance policy. It can be new way of filing paperwork or getting your baby to sleep through the night. Why is it that some people are so successful at selling? They are confident.

Confidence begins from within. To develop confidence, the hypnotherapist works with you when you are most susceptible to new ideas about yourself. He does this by bring you to a state of complete relaxation; a trance-like condition where you are able to shut out the world around you. The first step of hypnosis brings you to that relaxed state so the therapy can begin.

Once you have confidence, you need to be able to also have the skills to close the sale.

Medical 'Miracles' Not Supported by Evidence

By Benjamin Radford
Managing Editor, Skeptical Inquirer Magazine

The phrase "medical miracle" is a newsroom cliche. It means a situation in which a person makes an unexpected recovery despite great odds or a pessimistic prognosis.

Yet often the phrase is used much more broadly to describe a seemingly supernatural or paranormal healing or curing event such as faith healing. While to many people it may seem obvious that a miracle has occurred, in reality such miracles are rarely as impressive as they seem.

A recent segment on the popular ABC newsmagazine Primetime shows a good example.

A Canadian teenager named Adam Dreamhealer claims to cure cancer, coax the comatose to consciousness, and drive out infection. He has written books, sells DVDs, and offers seminars. Dreamhealer says he can heal people using his hands, mind, and mystical energies. Those who tout his powers include celebrities such as astronaut Edgar Mitchell and musician Ronnie Hawkins.

Many people continue to believe in miracle cures despite no good evidence that they occurred. When modern medicine fails to heal, many desperate people turn to unproven or "alternative" healers. What is the evidence that he can actually heal people?

The Definitive Hypnosis Cheat Sheet

By Taylor Starr
Undergound Hypnosis

This cheat sheet was originally put together by professional hypnotherapist,
and former stage hypnotist, Steven Hall MCOH MASC NLP. Its purpose is to reveal the secrets of hypnosis, making it accessible to everyone. These techniques will work for stage hypnosis or hypnotherapy, however, they are taught here for information purposes only. After reading this article you will have the knowledge and ability necessary to hypnotize people, but please do not practice hypnosis without first undergoing more intensive study. Details are included here.

Lesson One: Hypnosis is natural
The first thing you need to know is that hypnosis is a very natural state. It requires no special power to hypnotize someone. If you can talk you can hypnotize.

In fact, it is such a natural state that people go into hypnosis regularly without
even realizing it. The most common natural states occur while gazing into a fire or when driving (it’s that moment when you suddenly realize that you are unsure as to which route you have just driven home!) If you were to listen to some positive suggestions while in these naturally occurring trance states they would have an effect on you… so be aware of commercial radio on long journeys!

When you intentionally hypnotize someone what you are doing is operating the
switch that puts them into this natural state at a time of your (and their) choosing, so that you can use it productively.

Lesson Two: Relaxation causes trance
There are many things that have been found to cause trance, these include confusion, shock, repetition, focused attention and relaxation. For the purposes of your studies we are going to be concentrating on relaxation, as it is the easiest to produce without offending your client.

We will also be using focused attention as this will help to stop your clients
mind from wandering during the induction process. The initial induction process is all about getting the client to relax, and, as many people have completely forgotten how to do this, you do need to help them out a little; most people are a lot tenser than they realize.

Do We Live in the Matrix?

By Gary S. Bekkum
Starstream Research

Does the future reach backwards to determine the past?

The reasonable answer is no, at least not in the material universe around us.

For conscious sentient intelligent beings, the answer isn't so simple. The CIA STAR GATE documents prove that the U.S. Government would like to know more about the day after tomorrow.

Now we may know why.

Many years ago I was thinking about the best way to explain weird metaphysical phenomenology and the psychology beneath our experience of the future, and concluded that a coherent explanation must involve a model of the physics of information. It also happened that around the same time period, a mini revolution was taking place in physics and information in the form of quantum information theory.

Traditional systems of applied metaphysics typically involve highly developed and complex landscapes of characters, forms, and emotions interacting under strictly controlled protocols. This is sometimes reduced in description to the word "ritual" with attendant meanings open to interpretation.

Information theorist Seth Lloyd, an MIT expert in quantum computing, in a recent discussion at www.edge.org , stated that, "Many of the systems we regard as processing information, particularly sophisticated ones, have a notion of correspondence of a message with something else ... I regard those as emergent features that we can only ascribe to objects like living things, or perhaps to life itself. Those emergent features are very important. However, it is possible for a system to register information without that information having some kind of semantic meaning."

Seth Lloyd has been exploring the ultimate limits of computation. Lloyd's explorations are extremely important for our understanding of the fundamental role of information and quantum mechanics in the operation of the universe, where everything that exists can be viewed as performing a computation, including atoms and their constituent particles. Such an approach fails to address the celebrated author Douglas Adams' famous "ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything."

8-year-old Boy Remembers Past Life as Fighter Pilot

By Patti Dobranski
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

James Leininger's parents want their 8-year-old son to have a great life -- his own life.

But for the past 5 1/2 years, the Louisiana boy has been reliving pieces of the life of another James -- Lt. James McCready Huston, a World War II fighter pilot from Uniontown who was killed near Iwo Jima more than 50 years before James was born.

At 2 1/2 years old, James began expressing aviation knowledge that surpassed not just a typical toddler's ability, but that of his parents.

The child began reciting a collection of information and had recurring nightmares about being shot down by a Japanese plane with a red sun on it.

James' parents, Bruce and Andrea, eventually realized their son's assertions were accurate and that something beyond the tangible was occurring. Their lives have not been the same.

Beginning in 2004, James made a couple of TV appearances for ABC News and on the Montel Williams Show.

Playing With Children Is the Best Way to Increase Their Brain Power

Courtesy Stanford University Medical Center
and World Science staff

Playing with your young children is the best way to make them into smart adults, researchers say—beating trendy toys, classes or music as a brain-building strategy for preschoolers.

Children’s foremost need is a secure relationship with an adult who loves them, said Eric Knudsen of the Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif. “It’s all about playing with your child,” he added.

A paper appearing in the June 27 advance online issue of the research journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences details the findings, by Knudsen and three other members of the U.S. National Scientific Council on the Developing Child.

The council, based at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., is a group of 12 scientists from across the United States in the field of early childhood development.

The paper draws on past research in economics, neurobiology, developmental psychology and public policy. The authors said that working independently, they concluded that the earliest years of life forever shape an adult’s ability to learn.

The capacity for change in the foundations of skill development and brain circuitry “is highest earlier in life and decreases over time,” the authors wrote. A child’s eventual ability to learn calculus or a second language, Knudsen said, starts with brain cells shaped by positive interactions with nurturing adults, well before school begins.

Jack P. Shonkoff of Brandeis, chairman of the council and a co-author of the paper, said lawmakers should take heed, as skilled jobs are moving from the United States overseas and a growing percentage of its workforce is raised in disadvantaged environments.

“With all the attention currently focused on K-12 education reform and job training for adults with limited skills, this paper said that the biggest bang for the buck will come from investing in the earliest years of life,” he said. “It’s not about the toys, it’s about the human connection.”
