Reincarnation Still Mystifies Scientists

By Natalia Leskova,
Pravda

Clinical death is one of the biggest mysteries that modern science still cannot solve.

Some people say they remember their previous lives and can describe what they saw and did when they were having other bodies hundreds or thousands of years ago.

Vladimir Zatovka, head of the reanimation department in the Kaliningrad regional hospital revealed many astonishing facts about life and death when journalists interviewed him several years ago.

The experienced doctor believes that clinical death is one of the biggest mysteries that modern science still cannot solve. Indeed, patients who revive after clinical death say they get some mysterious information and learn new things. Journalists were slightly shocked to hear the doctor saying the soul actually exists and lives its individual life.

One of the doctor's patients, Irina Lakoba was in coma for about a month after she seriously suffered in a traffic accident. She recovered from coma and turned out to be quite a different person. Before the accident, the woman worked as an engineer at a large fish company for twenty years. But when she regained consciousness after the coma, the woman said she saw herself being a little girl standing on the bank of some south river and even began speaking some strange language.

The Art of Psychic Combat

By Dale Power

Psychic combat has traditionally not been spoken of in public. When it has been mentioned, hushed tones have been used, and very few real techniques have ever been discussed in a factual manner.

Most of the information available to the public amounts to superstitious recounting of curses or the use of voo-doo dolls in fiction. The reasons for this are clear. Psychic Combat is perhaps better described as psychic sabotage and assassination, because once you have basic shielding and some defensive strategies down, that is what you have left.

Most people have felt, with some merit, that teaching people to harm others in a way that cannot be easily traced, is wrong. That too many would misuse their talents if they had this information.

In this series you will be told how to use psychic skills to cause break-downs in equipment, promote dissension among a group of people, sabotage food and water supplies, confuse individuals and large groups, cause harm to specific individuals and finally how to kill with psychic abilities.

My hope is that no one will ever have to use any of these skills in a negative way.

Life being what it is though, I feel that I would be remiss were I to pretend such things can not be done, to good effect, in time of war or other desperate situations.

Also, I hope to show several good, practical reasons, for why many of these techniques, those that harm or kill people in particular, should not be used without extreme levels of skill and care.

To do that though, it is important to understand what is being done. Without a basic understanding of the processes involved, many will be tempted to try such things without understanding why it will backfire on them.

Meditation Lowers Blood Pressure

By Christine Haran,
Science Daily

Could sitting in a chair with your eyes closed and your mind alert reduce your blood pressure as effectively as a hypertension drug? New research shows that if you're practicing transcendental meditation (TM) in that chair, it just might.

A study published the January issue of the American Journal of Hypertension compared transcendental meditation with health education classes and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), another stress reduction technique, in 150 African Americans being treated for hypertension.

"In one year's time, people with mild high blood pressure—which is still damaging to the heart—had reductions in diastolic blood pressure with TM similar to reductions seen with drugs," said study author Robert Schneider, MD, FACS, director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention at the Maharishi University of Management in Iowa.

13 Things That Do Not Make Sense

New Scientist

1 The placebo effect

DON'T try this at home. Several times a day, for several days, you induce pain in someone. You control the pain with morphine until the final day of the experiment, when you replace the morphine with saline solution. Guess what? The saline takes the pain away.

2 The horizon problem

OUR universe appears to be unfathomably uniform. Look across space from one edge of the visible universe to the other, and you'll see that the microwave background radiation filling the cosmos is at the same temperature everywhere. That may not seem surprising until you consider that the two edges are nearly 28 billion light years apart and our universe is only 14 billion years old.

3 Ultra-energetic cosmic rays

FOR more than a decade, physicists in Japan have been seeing cosmic rays that should not exist. Cosmic rays are particles - mostly protons but sometimes heavy atomic nuclei - that travel through the universe at close to the speed of light. Some cosmic rays detected on Earth are produced in violent events such as supernovae, but we still don't know the origins of the highest-energy particles, which are the most energetic particles ever seen in nature. But that's not the real mystery.

4 Belfast homeopathy results

MADELEINE Ennis, a pharmacologist at Queen's University, Belfast, was the scourge of homeopathy. She railed against its claims that a chemical remedy could be diluted to the point where a sample was unlikely to contain a single molecule of anything but water, and yet still have a healing effect. Until, that is, she set out to prove once and for all that homeopathy was bunkum.

5 Dark matter

TAKE our best understanding of gravity, apply it to the way galaxies spin, and you'll quickly see the problem: the galaxies should be falling apart. Galactic matter orbits around a central point because its mutual gravitational attraction creates centripetal forces. But there is not enough mass in the galaxies to produce the observed spin.

6 Viking's methane

JULY 20, 1976. Gilbert Levin is on the edge of his seat. Millions of kilometres away on Mars, the Viking landers have scooped up some soil and mixed it with carbon-14-labelled nutrients. The mission's scientists have all agreed that if Levin's instruments on board the landers detect emissions of carbon-14-containing methane from the soil, then there must be life on Mars.

7 Tetraneutrons

FOUR years ago, a particle accelerator in France detected six particles that should not exist. They are called tetraneutrons: four neutrons that are bound together in a way that defies the laws of physics.

8 The Pioneer anomaly

THIS is a tale of two spacecraft. Pioneer 10 was launched in 1972; Pioneer 11 a year later. By now both craft should be drifting off into deep space with no one watching. However, their trajectories have proved far too fascinating to ignore.

9 Dark energy

IT IS one of the most famous, and most embarrassing, problems in physics. In 1998, astronomers discovered that the universe is expanding at ever faster speeds. It's an effect still searching for a cause - until then, everyone thought the universe's expansion was slowing down after the big bang. "Theorists are still floundering around, looking for a sensible explanation," says cosmologist Katherine Freese of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. "We're all hoping that upcoming observations of supernovae, of clusters of galaxies and so on will give us more clues."

10 The Kuiper cliff

IF YOU travel out to the far edge of the solar system, into the frigid wastes beyond Pluto, you'll see something strange. Suddenly, after passing through the Kuiper belt, a region of space teeming with icy rocks, there's nothing.

11 The Wow signal

IT WAS 37 seconds long and came from outer space. On 15 August 1977 it caused astronomer Jerry Ehman, then of Ohio State University in Columbus, to scrawl "Wow!" on the printout from Big Ear, Ohio State's radio telescope in Delaware. And 28 years later no one knows what created the signal. "I am still waiting for a definitive explanation that makes sense," Ehman says.

12 Not-so-constant constants

IN 1997 astronomer John Webb and his team at the University of New South Wales in Sydney analysed the light reaching Earth from distant quasars. On its 12-billion-year journey, the light had passed through interstellar clouds of metals such as iron, nickel and chromium, and the researchers found these atoms had absorbed some of the photons of quasar light - but not the ones they were expecting.

13 Cold fusion

AFTER 16 years, it's back. In fact, cold fusion never really went away. Over a 10-year period from 1989, US navy labs ran more than 200 experiments to investigate whether nuclear reactions generating more energy than they consume - supposedly only possible inside stars - can occur at room temperature. Numerous researchers have since pronounced themselves believers.

The New Science of Mind Over Matter

By Olga Kharif
Business Week Online

A 25-year-old man unable to move from the neck down recently did what many assumed impossible. After a knife attack that had left him paralyzed, all he could move was his head, which he used to push a switch and summon a nurse. And he could steer his wheelchair by blowing into a straw near his face. That was it.

Then last June, a Foxborough (Mass.) company called CyberKinetics opened the man's skull and implanted a special chip no larger than a baby aspirin.

That implant has given him a few additional and precious abilities. When hooked to a special computer via a cable, the chip translates the young man's thoughts into commands that let him move a cursor across a PC screen and open e-mail.

He can draw a circle with a computer painting program. And he can use a robotic hook to perform simple tasks like picking up a candy and sliding it across a table.

All he has to do is think.

Hypnotized Brain Feels No Pain

Brain imaging has yielded insight into how hypnosis can work as an anesthetic while validating the technique for medicine.

While hypnosis has been shown to reduce pain perception, it's not clear how.

To help find out, researchers at the University of Iowa and the Technical University of Aachen, Germany used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) on volunteers under hypnosis.

They found that the volunteers had significant pain reduction in response to painful heat.

They also had a distinctly different pattern of brain activity compared to when they experienced the heat while not hypnotized.

The changes suggest that hypnosis somehow blocks pain signals from getting to parts of the brain that perceive pain.

"The major finding from our study, which used fMRI for the first time to investigate brain activity under hypnosis for pain suppression, is that we see reduced activity in areas of the pain network and increased activity in other areas of the brain under hypnosis," says Iowa researcher Sebastian Schulz-Stubner, the study's first author.

Synchronicity: The Key of Destiny

By Frank Joseph,
New Dawn Magazine

Synchronicity is the most mysterious thing in the world. Synchronicity is the term parapsychologists use for “meaningful coincidence.” It happens to everyone, more often than we realise. But synchronicities are not “mere” coincidences, random accidents without significance.

Going through a half-forgotten collection of old photographs, you’re surprised to find the snap-shot of a friend you lost contact with years ago. Just then the telephone rings and the voice on the other end of the line belongs to the same person in the photo.

You’re desperate to find a parking place because you’ve got to be on time for a crucial appointment. There’s not an open spot as far as the eye can see. Suddenly, a car pulls out in front of you, leaving you a space right in front of the address where you’re expected.

You’ve just finished reading a book about rare birds, when the first humming-bird you’ve ever seen in your back yard is drinking nectar from a nearby flower.

These are typical incidents of synchronicity. And while most people brush them aside as insignificant happenstance, some of the greatest minds in history have grappled with this universal enigma. “Synchronicity” was coined by last century’s leading psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung. Fascinated as he was by it, even Albert Einstein could not understand how it worked.

A synchronous event of my own in 1991 prompted me to interview, over the next six years, eventually 100 persons about their feelings on this elusive enigma. The meaningful coincides they shared with me proved more illuminating than anything I ever read on the subject.

Subliminal Messages: Deceiving the Mind

By Autumn C. Koerbel

Although you might not realize it, subliminal messages are probably being used on you. Used mainly as advertising tools, such messages are designed to be relayed without their targets ever being conscious of them.

Because of this, their use is banned in most major countries. Nonetheless, subliminal messages continue to be disseminated throughout the media world, deceiving those who encounter them.

Subliminal messages were apparently first unleashed on the American public in the 1950s by James Vicary, an advertising executive. Vicary performed a study at movie theaters in which the words "Drink Coca-Cola" and "Eat Popcorn" were flashed on the screen, yet so quickly that the unwary audience didn't consciously notice them.

Vicary claimed that sales on popcorn and Coke accordingly soared at the concession stands, jumping 57.7% and 18.1% respectively. Although no substantial results were demonstrated, this story has been around for over 50 years.

Subliminal messaging can be defined as the use of a signal or message designed to pass below the normal limits of perception. These messages are typically undetectable to the naked eye or ear, cloaked from the conscious mind and yet perceived unconsciously.

Six Steps to Super Mind Power

By Dr. Jill Ammon-Wexler
www.quantum-self.com

Ever hear "You can't teach an old dog a new trick?" Well that might be true for dogs, but it's NOT TRUE for humans! Today's research has proven your brain can continue to physically grow -- even into very advanced old age.

You might have also thought that you can't grow new brain cells (neurons) once you reach adulthood. Whether or not that is true (the decision is still out) does NOT really matter.

Here's why: You have billions upon billions of neurons. In fact, if your brain neurons were laid out end to end, they would stretch all the way to the moon and back.

The secret to a lively brain is NOT your number of neurons -- it is the diversity of interconnections between those neurons. Researchers like Dr. Marion Diamond who analyzed Albert Einstein?s brain found it was different in only one way -- Einstein had more interconnections between his neurons.

Here is what is really exciting: Such an unusual supply of interconnections is NOT inherited. No one is born with such a brain -- it is created.

More Magic Words That Make You Rich

By Ted Nicholas
Author of "Magic Words That Make You Rich"

You might think this strange, but every day, before I start work, I stand up, look to the sky, throw my hands in the air, and shout out loud: "I feel terrific!"

This is what I call an 'affirmation' -- positive self-talk to charge up my emotions and help me produce my very best work. An affirmation can be as simply as "YES!"...as uplifting as "I'm very happy at this moment!"...or as determined as "I'm willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed!"

Try it for yourself right now. Choose a positive message you want to tell yourself. Then stand up, put your head back, throw your arms up, and shout it out loud. Makes you feel uncomfortable? Good! You've just discovered how powerful words can be.

Unlimited Success & Wealth are All In the Words You Use

What's the single most important asset you and your business possess? Forget money and numbers. The true currency of business is WORDS. Communicating your ideas, your offer, the benefits of your product -- using words to achieve your aims is the single most important activity any business ever performs.

Unlimited success and wealth are as simple as using the right words. You can get everything you've ever wanted in life, simply by saying the right words -- because the words which you communicate determine the quality of your life.

This is true whether communicating with others or with yourself. Especially with yourself.

to invent, would you ever boost your inventing skill? Of course not!

But if you make a commitment to invent something, your potential
suddenly shifts.

Your Potential for Genius

So here's a wake up call about something you may have overlooked about
yourself: Your brain contains the seeds of genius. You have personal potentials so far beyond what you're are achieving today, it's virtually staggering!

Keanu Reeves Sees Dead People

In an eerie echo of movie The Sixth Sense, Keanu Reeves says he can 'see dead people'.

The Hollywood star revealed his ghostly experiences in a remarkable interview about his new supernatural thriller, Constantine.

When we meet in Los Angeles for the launch of the movie, Keanu tells me he has seen ghosts on at least two occasions.

As he notices I'm goggle-eyed, he asks where I'm from - and, when I say Scotland, he laughs and says: 'My God, man, that's full of ghosts! You gotta walk on the moors at a certain time.'

Maybe the rest of us are just not as sensitive as Keanu, who details two vivid examples.

How to Think Like a Winner: Secrets of a Three-time Olympian

By Ruben Gonzalez

What would your life be like if failure was not an option? Would you like to perform at your peak more often? What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

In the next few minutes you will learn how I programed my mind to make my Olympic Dream come true three times! You will learn techniques that can change your life. So here we go...

Four years after making a decision to begin training for the Olympics, I had the honor of competing in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics in the luge. I went on to compete in the 1992 Albertville Olympics and I just competed in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics at the age of 39.

How does someone who did not even take up the sport of luge until he was 22 become a Three-Time Olympian? As I tell thousands of people in my speeches, I'm not a big shot. I'm just a little shot that keeps on shooting. I'm proof that ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things if they will just put the right things into their minds.

Olympic Athletes consistently and persistently use specialized techniques to program their minds to achieve peak performance. The following simple techniques performed consistently over a period of time will change your outlook in life and ultimately your outcomes.

Dowsing Data Defy the Skeptics

By Jim Wilson
Popular Mechanics

Usually, the boundary between science and science fiction is as distinct as the difference between the 6 o'clock news and "The Simpsons." Wherever the line blurs, you're bound to find contentious debates. One of the longest-running of these disagreements centers on dowsing, a supposed sixth sense that enables people to find underground water using a forked branch, pendulum or pair of bent wires. There is no scientific reason why dowsing should work. Yet, it apparently works well enough and reliably enough to keep the practice alive.

Like bees unaware they are too aerodynamically challenged to fly, dowsers don't let the skeptics get them down. In fact, the ranks of dowsers have been steadily growing. Forty years ago, about 50 dowsers and curiosity seekers were drawn to Danville, Vt., for a 1-day National Dowsing Convention. That get-together led to the creation of the American Society of Dowsers (ASD), which now counts about 4200 members. Lest you dismiss dowsing's popularity as just another New Age fad, take a close look at the 16th century drawing to the left. The men wearing traditional miners' clothing are holding the same type of forked stick in use by many dowsers today.

Now comes a massive set of data that suggests there may be some validity to dowsers' claims. The encouraging words are contained in a study financed by the German government and published in the Journal Of Scientific Exploration, which is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published at Stanford University.
