9 Ways Meditation Can Actually Change the Brain

Besides exercise, which has huge impacts on the nervous system, meditation or mindfulness seems to change the brain of people who practice it. In recent years, people have become more interested in finding ways to relax their minds and bodies.

And meditation seems to be the right choice. It has huge impacts on the behavior and way of thinking of people and researchers have found that it enhances connectivity between brain regions. Daily meditation can change the brain over time, but how?

Top 10 Old School Self-Help Books

The self-help industry today generates literally thousands of books, seminars, and audio programs, on which Americans spend more than $11 billion yearly.

Most self-help programs are based in "positive thinking" – the principle that your thoughts shape your destiny. This message grew out of mental-healing and Transcendentalist tracts of the mid-nineteenth century, and attained mass appeal in works such as Norman Vincent Peale's 1952 The Power of the Positive Thinking.

Critics generally view positive thinking as namby-pamby nonsense. But the philosophy has produced ideas that are deeply useful, even profound. You probably believe some of them already. This list considers the most compelling and overlooked expressions of this practical philosophy. While many of these books proved too esoteric in tone to attain the mass appeal of Dale Carnegie and Joel Osteen, they are a treasure of serviceable ideas and are all still available today.

If you had to be 100% honest with yourself...

Do you think it's possible you've been hiding behind beliefs like:

“I’m too old to start over.”

“I'm too busy to learn new things."

"I'm not smart/talented/lucky enough to get what I really want.”

If you have, there’s something important you need to remember:

All of these beliefs are simply illusions.

Because no matter where you come from or where you're at right now -

You have the power to transform your beliefs, and in turn, your life.

And this "mind over matter” process is exactly what my friend and acclaimed human potential coach, Natalie Ledwell, will show you, in precise steps, on her upcoming online training.

So, if you feel stuck, stressed, frustrated or undeserving, and you think some of that negativity may be coming from inside you, then quick:

Get Happy Get Money

By Abraham Hicks / Source: MindBendingVideos.com

There is a journey between where you are and where you want to be. And it is not a work journey, it is not an effort journey, it is not a getting hired journey, it is not even a getting a great idea for a great product that the world wants journey.

It is a vibrational journey. It really is as simple as looking for a reason to feel good, about now, or about later, or about the past. Doesn't matter. You're thinking about the past, the present or the future, you're doing it now. You're offering the vibration now. It's causing you to be a vibrational point of attraction now.

And law of attraction cannot buck your current. Law of attraction cannot give you what's in your vortex, what you've dreamed into place, if your now vibration is a vibrational variance from it. You've got to do the vibrational alignment.

Unlightenment: The Power of Not Taking Yourself Too Seriously

It turns out that enlightenment is just having a really good sense of humor. We are all merely punchlines to a terribly funny cosmic joke.

But the real question is this: what do we do about it? Do we have hard feelings about it or do we cultivate a disposition of lightheartedness? Do we take it seriously and tighten our grip or do we take it sincerely and loosen up a little? Do we curl up into a ball of existential angst and cry ourselves to sleep or do we have a sense of humor about it? Do we tremble, tremble, tremble or do we laugh, laugh, laugh?

The path to enlightenment was never meant to be easy. It’s an arduously Herculean task, a painstakingly Nietzschean mission, a laboriously Promethean undertaking.

Could Drugs Be a Pathway to God?

The New York Times named How to Change Your Mind one of its top 10 books of 2018. Michael Pollan’s title might suggest that his readers will gain insights into self-improvement, but it is not that sort of a book. A more accurate title might have been How I Changed My Mind because the new viewpoint is Mr. Pollan’s own.

The long subtitle, however, accurately lays out the book’s contents: “What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us about Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence.”

Would You Sell Your Brain For $397,800?

Guess how much your brain is worth.

$397,800 (and maybe as much as twice this figure).

"My brain?" you may be thinking to yourself.

"My brain is worth that much?"

Not if you are thinking of selling it.

You Just Lost The Game

Source: Everything Is Infinite

I just lost The Game.

And so did you.

Confused? Read on…

When my son was young he taught me a game kids played, called “The Game”. It goes like this. Everyone is always playing The Game. But you forget. Sometimes you remember that you are playing The Game. And that’s how you lose. When you remember that you are playing The Game, you say to everyone who is listening, “I just lost The Game.” And that reminds them all that they are also playing The Game, and they all lose at once. And everyone groans. It’s hilarious.

But I always like to bend rules. So when I remembered that I was playing The Game, I would say “I just won The Game,” just to be a contrarian.

The Game We Are Playing Is Life Itself

Let’s pretend that The Game we are playing is life itself. Everyone is always playing The Game. Sometimes you remember that life is a game, and that’s when you win the game. When you remember that all of life is a game, and your true purpose is simply to enjoy playing the game, and becoming a better player (that is, a better person) by making mistakes and learning from those mistakes, and by suffering and becoming a more empathetic soul, then in those moments the stress of life melts away. You have won The Game.

The Science of Happiness: 20 Things You Can Do This Year To Change Your Life

MindTrip Magazine

There is no secret to happiness, but there is a science to it, says Dr. Tim Bono, PhD, a psychology lecturer in Arts & Sciences who teaches courses on happiness at Washington University in St. Louis.
How can we be happier? In a world where stress, anxiety and bad days can easily overtake the good.
In his recent book, When Likes Aren't Enough: A Crash Course in the Science of Happiness, Bono explores how the often overlooked details of day-to-day life can have a sizeable influence on our personal sense of well-being and happiness.

How to Enter Someone Else's Dreams

The idea of being able to enter someone else's dream can seem like something right out of a science fiction movie. It may conjure up ideas of being attached to all sort of gadgets and devices and being placed in some controlled environment in order to accomplish this great feat. However, none of this is needed in order to enter someone's dreams.

In fact, the process is far simpler than many of us would care to believe. If anything, that level of power may conjure up a bit of fear at how easy it could be for someone to have that much power over us or perhaps even our own fear of being in possession of that much power over another.

This Is Your Brain on Exercise

Human beings evolved to move.

Our bodies, including our brains, were fine-tuned for endurance activities over millennia of stalking and chasing down prey.

"We've engineered that out of our lives now," says Charles Hillman, a psychology professor at Northeastern University who has spent decades studying the link between exercise and cognition. The toll our relatively new sedentary lifestyle takes on our bodies is clear: For the first time in U.S. history, younger generations are expected to live shorter, unhealthier lives than their parents.

Can You Turn On Brain Power, Motivation, Energy, And Confidence In Just 15 Minutes?

Can you imagine being able to listen to a 15-minute MP3 to turn on any mind state you want.

For example, want to experience razor sharp focus? Just listen to an audio.

Want to feel happier? Listen to that audio. More brain power? Pop in that audio.

That's what a new “brainwave entrainment” site claims you’ll be able to do. And, apparently, they have the science to back it up.

Today, I’m going to pull back the curtains and see if their claims are the real deal – or nothing but hot air.

Can Dreams Predict the Future?

Can dreams predict the future? There is surprisingly little scientific information available to provide concrete answers to this common question. While methods exist to test the abilities of individuals who claim to be psychic, I have been unable to find studies of this nature dealing specifically with dreams.

Ayahuasca vs. Depression

Gary, a London-based ayahuasca user, believes that ayahuasca can alleviate depression. Before he started taking the South American plant-based brew, he suffered from intense bouts of anxiety and panic attacks.

“[Ayahuasca] is a very potent tool that shakes your psyche up and puts it back together again [...] The first time I took it I felt like I was dying,” said Gary, who requested his surname remain anonymous. “It’s a radical means to fast-forward your self-development.”

2019's Most Mind-Boggling Stories About the Brain

2019 was nuts for neuroscience. I said this last year too, but that's the nature of accelerating technologies: the advances just keep coming.

There are the theoretical showdowns: a mano a mano battle of where consciousness arises in the brain, wildly creative theories of why our brains are so powerful, and the first complete brain wiring diagram of any species. This year also saw the the birth of "hybrid" brain atlases that seek to interrogate brain function from multiple levels--genetic, molecular, and wiring, synthesizing individual maps into multiple comprehensive layers.

5 Traps Used to Shut Down and Limit Human Consciousness

The human condition at present is one of slavery, a new kind of slavery, where bondage is psychological and spiritual rather than physical.

Human consciousness is the target in a broad war of control where people willingly acquiesce to social conditions which clearly fail to serve their best interests, even doing them harm.

We accept the status quo of warfare, fear, environmental destruction, greed, corruption, poisoned health and false scarcity because we’ve been herded into traps which hold us hostage with false beliefs and the appearance of comfort.

In reality, though, breaking through these traps would allow us to apply the principles of peace, sustainability, exploration, acceptance and progress to improving the human condition.
