The Church of Ayahuasca

A church in Winnipeg, Manitoba just became the latest to get a government exemption to legally import and use daime tea, known as ayahuasca, VICE News has learned.

The Centre for Universal Illumination Luz Divina is part of a growing number of religious groups with special permission to use ayahuasca, as advocates and scientists continue to push for more research into the potential benefits of the substance -- and the decriminalization of all psychedelics.

5 Foolproof Ways to Expand Your Consciousness

I started running at 4:45 in the afternoon. It was about 120 degrees (49 C) outside. First came exhaustion from the heat. The dust from the desert floor covered me like a heat -amplifying insulator. About 40 minutes in I realized that storm front in the distance was rolling back on me and I wouldn’t be able to get back in time.

That was when the fear set in. When the storm hit me the lightning was so close I could feel the heat coming off the impacts on the ground. And I just knew that if I stopped I would die. By the time I finished I couldn’t remember my name.

Five methods are traditionally used to change a man’s perception of his environment: death, drugs, duress, dreams and meditation. The most important part is to make sure you have a well-thought-out question you need answered, and to hold on to it before you cross the threshold of any of these doorways.

The Happy Drugs Inside Your Brain

Source: The Ancient Secret of Kings

We might not have a money tree, but we can have a happiness tree.

Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin, and Endorphins are the quartet responsible for our happiness. Many events can trigger these neurotransmitters, but rather than being in the passenger seat, there are ways we can intentionally cause them to flow.

Being in a positive state has significant impact on our motivation, productivity, and wellbeing. No sane person would be opposed to having higher levels in those areas.

Here are some simple ways to hack into our positive neurochemicals:

The Most Dangerous Mind Control Drug in the World

A hazardous drug that eliminates free will and can wipe the memory of its victims is currently being dealt on the streets of Colombia.

The drug is called scopolamine, but is colloquially known as ‘The Devil's Breath,' and is derived from a particular type of tree common to South America.

Stories surrounding the drug are the stuff of urban legends, with some telling horror stories of how people were raped, forced to empty their bank accounts, and even coerced into giving up an organ.

VICE's Ryan Duffy travelled to the country to find out more about the powerful drug. In this video he reveals the shocking culture of another Colombian drug world, interviewing those who deal the drug and those who have fallen victim to it.

Are Mind-Altering Drugs the Secret to Success?

Cary Grant LSD
Don't do drugs! They'll lead you down the path to perdition! That's the message beaten into our heads from our earliest years. But not everybody listens, of course. Some who didn't listen have gone on to do great things, even after using the most mind-warping drugs of all: psychedelics.

Magic mushrooms, peyote and ayahuasca all have their aficionados, but LSD is the biggie. Since Timothy Leary turned on a generation in the 1960s, acid has been the Cadillac of psychedelics, and millions of people have used the mighty molecule to blow out the carburetors of their minds. They report not only weird hallucinations, but profound spiritual awakenings and psychic epiphanies.

Among those millions of psychedelic users are some of the most creative minds of our time, who partly credit their use of mind-melters for their successes. Whether it's science, the arts or industry, the voyage through inner space has proven useful -- or at least these seven people at the pinnacle of their fields thought so.

Smart People Stay Up Late, Do More Drugs, Have More Sex

MindTrip Magazine

What is the mark of an intelligent mind in our day and age? When we think of intelligent people, we may have been conditioned to envision them in a library somewhere studying. We associate intelligence with social reservation and good behaviour.

But what if the opposite were true? What if the ones who are most intelligent are engaging in behaviours grandma and grandpa wouldn’t approve of? Times have changed, and people who have a higher intelligence aren’t always interested in studying and following the rules.

This may sound a bit shocking, but a series of studies have come out showing that intelligent people stay up later, do more drugs, and have more sex. The people in our society who have the highest IQs are nocturnal and enjoy indulging in drugs and sex more often than people with a lower IQ.

Top 10 Visionaries Who Experimented With Mind-Altering Drugs

Is intelligence related to an increased likelihood of recreational drug use?

It's an interesting hypothesis, and one that's been gaining momentum in recent years.

If a definitive link between intellectual capacity and drug use does exist, it will likely be some time before anyone establishes one.

Having said that, this much is for certain: history has more than its fair share of experimenting experimentalists.

Let's meet 10 of history's most influential scientific and technological visionaries, along with their drugs of choice.

The Club Drug That Cures Depression Instantly

By Ryan Jaslow / Source: CBS News

What's the latest recreational drug to make its way to the medical field? Ketamine, also known as "Special K." The club drug, typically used by veterinarians as a cat tranquilizer, is said to provide patients an "instant" relief from depression, according to a new study.

Doctors at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston are now experimentally using the drug to treat some patients who come to the emergency room with suicidal depression, NPR reported.

The Digital Drug That Gives An All-Natural High

Digital Drug
Source: All Natural High

All Natural High is an audio recording which uses special sounds to help shift your brainwave patterns -- recreating states of euphoria, excitement and mental agility.

In this article, we'll look at why this happens, and the science behind it.

Brainwaves and how they affect you

Every state of mind has a particular "signature" attached to it. This is represented by your brainwave patterns (or "frequency").

For example, if you're in a state of deep focus, your brainwaves are likely to be in the Alpha frequency range of 8-12Hz. Other specific frequency patterns exist for states such as sleep, creativity, and general happiness.

These frequencies can be measured using powerful scientific tools, such as an EEG machine. (Also known as an electroencephalograph machine.)

In the 1830s, scientists discovered that by playing certain frequencies through the ears, the brain "followed" those frequencies. This is a powerful process known as "brainwave entrainment."

By changing your brainwave frequencies, you could change your state - encouraging focus, creativity, sleep, or mood improvement, for example.
