The Ten Commandments Of Con Men

The Power Of No
By James Altucher, Author of The Power of No

I told her I would never write about her again.

The first time I wrote about her was in 2009. I met her in a bookstore and she was drawing and I was attracted to her. I asked her what she was drawing.

She told me her whole story. And then a week later I wrote about it. That same day I got my first death threat. “I could kill you for writing about her.”

I apologized to her. We met. I asked her out. She said no.
“You’re too old for me.” Which I was.

I wrote about her again a few years later. Not because of her but because of who her boss was.

Can You Be Hypnotized? Take This Test

Hypnosis Test
Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a number of readers tell me how much they have enjoyed reading and learning more about hypnosis. As the conversation continues, I’ve also had several people say something to the effect of, “Hypnosis sounds wonderful, but I can’t be hypnotized. I’m very stubborn, I don’t have a good attention span and I cannot give up control.”

Have you ever wondered if you could be hypnotized? Some people will enter hypnosis rapidly and easily while others may need a little preliminary work and practice to help them let go and relax. The people that make the best hypnosis clients are those who are of average or above intelligence, have the ability to focus their mind and can follow simple step-by-step instructions.

The questions below will help assess your level of receptivity to hypnosis. Please answer yes or no. Give yourself two points for every yes answer. All no answers get zero points. At the end, total all of your yes answers and use the scoring section below to assess how receptive you are to hypnosis.

The Science of Voodoo: How Your Mind Can Make You Sick

By Helen Pilcher / Source: New Scientist

Late one night in a small Alabama cemetery, Vance Vanders had a run-in with the local witch doctor, who wafted a bottle of unpleasant-smelling liquid in front of his face, and told him he was about to die and that no one could save him.

Back home, Vanders took to his bed and began to deteriorate. Some weeks later, emaciated and near death, he was admitted to the local hospital, where doctors were unable to find a cause for his symptoms or slow his decline. Only then did his wife tell one of the doctors, Drayton Doherty, of the hex.

Doherty thought long and hard. The next morning, he called Vanders's family to his bedside. He told them that the previous night he had lured the witch doctor back to the cemetery, where he had choked him against a tree until he explained how the curse worked. The medicine man had, he said, rubbed lizard eggs into Vanders's stomach, which had hatched inside his body. One reptile remained, which was eating Vanders from the inside out.

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Lives in the Future

Venus Progject
To reach the Venus Project Research Center, a utopian compound created by a 100-year-old futurist, drive through vast stretches of fields, orchards, and dirt roads in south-central Florida.

There's little cell phone service and no signs of other humans on the way to a white gate. A sandy path flanked by lush tropical trees leads to a cluster of white dome-like structures. Inside one sits Jacque Fresco, hunched on a couch within his own model of an ideal society.

Fresco, now hard of hearing, gave me a nod when I visited in March. "Thank you for driving all this way," said Roxanne Meadows, 67, a former portrait artist and Fresco's longtime girlfriend and collaborator. A dozen people had turned out that day to see the secluded 21-acre property, including Venus Project devotees from as far away as Australia.

Angels or Hallucinations: Who Is Watching Over Us?

Source: Macleans Magazine

Joshua Slocum, on his way to becoming the first man to sail around the world alone, encountered one in 1895, an inexplicable presence that steered Slocum’s ship through a 48-hour gale while the Nova Scotian lay prostrate with food poisoning.

Reinhold Messner, the great Italian mountain climber, felt its comforting nearness in 1970, during the nightmarish descent from Kashmir’s Nanga Parbat mountain that killed his younger brother.

And on 9/11 one called Ron DiFrancesco by name and convinced the broker that the route to safety in the stairwells of the World Trade Center’s south tower meant running though flames.

Once you start looking for accounts of a “third man,” a mysterious, saving—and literally impossible—presence who appears to people at times of extreme stress and danger, you can find them by the dozen, says John Geiger, who presents an array of them in The Third Man Factor (Penguin). They’re fascinating to read, but this deeply humane book is far more than the sum of its parts: Geiger elegantly demonstrates how these divergent and very personal experiences reveal our profoundly social nature.

Know Thyself – How To Be Happy Without Changing Anything But Yourself

If you give the below video an hour and a half of your time, you won’t be disappointed with the Inner wisdom it gives you.

Do we create our own reality? As human beings we all co-create the aggregate of our experiences, your outer world is largely a reflection of your inner world. You are the co-creator of your reality.

You are not the entirety of your reality, this isn’t solipsism, at the same time you’re not at the mercy of a deterministic world with no free will. You co-create it, which means you have a lot of Power to influence it.

When you remove filters that influence the perspectives and decisions you make, the things that resonate with those filters will be removed with it. One of the laws, which is the law of analogy, as above so below, so within so without, are consistent in every human being because the patterns and cycles within ourselves create and interact with similar patterns and cycles outside of ourselves.

How to Succeed by Being Mediocre

Mediocre
This article is about why it’s okay to be average.

It isn’t a trick article either. Sometimes it’s better to under-perform than to get too ambitious or try too many things at once.

The Quantum Physics of Mindset

By Mike Cernovich,
author of
Gorilla Mindset

Why do affirmations work? Why is your life better when you live as if you have free will, even though free will itself might be a myth? Why is the mind so powerful and why does imagination create reality? Why are people who use DMT and other spirit molecules overwhelmed with the feeling that everything is connected?

Fred Alan Wolf PhD in, Time Loops and Space Twists: How God Created the Universe, explains the connection between quantum physics and mindset.

Money Is Not the Answer

By T. Harv Eker, Creator of
Spiritual Millionaire
Secrets of a Spiritual Millionaire

Money is not the answer. That's got to sound ironic coming from someone who believes whole-heartedly in the benefits of being rich.

Forget about getting out of debt, paying bills, buying nice things, etc. That stuff's great, but at the end of it all you're not going to give a damn about your credit rating. Money's the last thing on your mind in that moment, I would imagine.

Money can reduce the stress of living, but it can bring just as much if not more anxiety. I've gone through my cycles of accumulating and losing money, getting more and losing it again. The money wasn't burning a hole in my pocket. I just had a big hole in my pocket and didn't bother to sew it up. That hole represented something in my mental blueprint that kept me from being stable with money. There was nothing wrong with the money.

How to Think Like a Freak

By Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner / Excerpt from Think Like A Freak: How to Think Smarter About Almost Everything

When put on the spot and asked how we'd behave in a situation that pits a private benefit against the greater good, most of us won't admit to favouring the private benefit. But as history clearly shows, most people generally put their own interests ahead of others'. This doesn't make them bad people, it just makes them human.

But this can be frustrating if your ambitions are larger than simply securing some small private victory. Maybe you want to ease poverty, or make government work better, or persuade your company to pollute less, or just get your kids to stop fighting. How are you supposed to get everyone to pull in the same direction when they are all pulling primarily for themselves?

Most people think there is a "right" way to think about solving a given problem and a "wrong" way too. This inevitably leads to a lot of shouting – and a lot of unsolved problems. We'd like to bury the idea that there's a right way and a wrong way, a smart way and a foolish way.
