Can Sex Make You Smarter?

Sex could make you smarter after new research has found it can encourage the growth of brain cells.

Researchers in America and South Korea have found that sexual activity in mice and rats improved cognitive function.

Psychologists at the University of Maryland found that sexual experience enhanced the number of newly generated neurons in the hippocampus, where long-term memories are made.

The Lie Detector Hidden Inside Your Speech

It has been called the discovery of the 7th sense. The research into this phenomenon has been described as being of "Nobel calibre". It has been featured in numerous publications around the world, and in the United States it became a household name in the late 90s.

It is called Reverse Speech, the phenomenon of hidden backward messages in speech. It initially gained worldwide fame in the early 80s as those strange backward messages in rock and roll. Since that time, research has progressed significantly and it is now known to exist in all forms of human speech.

If human speech is recorded and played backwards, mixed amongst the gibberish at regular intervals can be heard very clear statements. These statements usually appear in short sentence form and are nearly always related to the forward speech. It appears constantly throughout language, so much so in fact, that it is believed to be a natural part of our speech processes.

Spirituality Protects Your Brain From Depression

A thickening of the brain cortex associated with regular meditation or other spiritual or religious practice could be the reason those activities guard against depression -- particularly in people who are predisposed to the disease, according to new research led by Lisa Miller, professor and director of Clinical Psychology and director of the Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University.

The study, published online by JAMA Psychiatry, involved 103 adults at either high or low risk of depression, based on family history. The subjects were asked how highly they valued religion or spirituality.

Brain MRIs showed thicker cortices in subjects who placed a high importance on religion or spirituality than those who did not. The relatively thicker cortex was found in precisely the same regions of the brain that had otherwise shown thinning in people at high risk for depression.

How to Get Everything You Want in Life with the Power of Persuasion

There's only one sure way to get anything you want in life... and that is with the cooperation of other people.

Without the cooperation of others, you'd never get a job, go out on a date, or have any friends. In order to gain cooperation, you have to use persuasion to get it.

Most people try to persuade others by rationalizing with them. Doesn't always work. Sometimes they try to argue with someone to get what they want. That won't work.

But smart people learn something about the art of persuasion and learn to give the other person something valuable in the exchange.

Psychic Powers Are Just a Trick of the Brain

Throughout the ages mystics have claimed to have a 'sixth sense' - that they can predict whether or not something good or or bad is about to happen, or that they have links to another, paranormal world.

But, according to recent research, being able to see into the future or sense strange happenings is merely a trick of the mind that has been misinterpreted for millenia.

While experts did find that people reliably 'sensed' when changes occurred in a scene - even when they couldn't tell exactly what had altered - they said that the idea that it was down to a special power was fundamentally wrong.

They said the ability to notice subtle changes was not down to extra sensory perception (ESP) - the supposed ability to unconsciously detect things beyond our five senses of vision, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

Exercise Cuts Depression in Half

Five years ago, after ending a long-term relationship, Anita became seriously depressed. It benched the once-physically active writer, who asked that her last name be withheld to protect her privacy.

She stopped running and began gaining weight and falling out of shape. It was not the first time she had been depressed, and traditional therapy had not helped her as much as she had hoped. This time, she sought out someone different. She found Jane Baxter, PhD, a therapist who was able to get her moving again, mentally and physically.

Baxter, who is based in Washington, D.C., has a unique background and practice. She is a psychologist and a certified personal trainer. When Anita showed up for her first appointment, Baxter eschewed the couch in favor of a treadmill.

How to Experience Total Freedom

By Eckhart Tolle
Author of The Power of Now

Are you stressed? Are you so busy getting to the future that the present is reduced to a means of getting there? Stress is caused by being "here" but wanting to be "there," or being in the present but wanting to be in the future. It's a split that tears you apart inside.

Does the past take up a great deal of your attention? Do you frequently talk and think about it, either positively or negatively? The great things that you have achieved, your adventures or experiences, or your victim story and the dreadful things that were done to you, or maybe what you did to someone else?

Are your thought processes creating guilt, pride, resentment, anger, regret, or self-pity? Then you are not only reinforcing a false sense of self but also helping to accelerate your body's aging process by creating an accumulation of past in your psyche. Verify this for yourself by observing those around you who have a strong tendency to hold on to the past.

Die To The Past Every Moment

You don't need it. Only refer to it when it is absolutely relevant to the present. Feel the power of this moment and the fullness of Being. Feel your presence.

Are you worried? Do you have many "what if" thoughts? You are identified with your mind, which is projecting itself into an imaginary future situation and creating fear. There is no way that you can cope with such a situation, because it doesn't exist. It's a mental phantom.

You can stop this health- and life-corroding insanity simply by acknowledging the present moment.

The Psychic Mormon Dream Mine

The so-called Dream Mine is located east of Salem in Utah County. The mine founder, John H. Koyle, was born August 14, 1864 at Spanish Fork, Utah County. He married Emily Arvilla Holt 9 December 1884. They had four son and three daughters. At about age twenty-two, Koyle experienced a dream about lost livestock and other domestic matters. Gradually he became known as a visionary man. He grew to dream about a wide variety of subjects, including world affairs. Many of his predictions came true and earned him a following of faithful admirers.

His membership in the Mormon Church led him to serve a mission in 1888 to 1891 in the Southern States Mission. His dreams continued and he was known as a missionary with prophetic abilities. Following his missionary service, Koyle returned home to his wife and family to resume farming.

In August 1894 he experienced a dream in which he was visited by a figure from another world. The visitor carried him to a high mountain east of Koyle's house and into the mountain, showing him the various strata and explaining the meaning of the minerals.

Are You Playing or Are You Dead?

Go ahead, ask a kid what he likes to do. He says, "I like to play".

What do you do when you're not playing?

"What do you mean?" the kid might say, "I play some more".

A kid can take a ROCK and then play with it. "Kick the rock".

I'll tell you the rules. I hope you and I can play this game.

You're on one side and I'm the other and we put a rock in the middle and we try to kick it past each other. That's it. And it's fun.

No keeping score. No goals. We're pushing and shoving and kicking and getting dirty. Some kid might say, "Whoah, that rock is a mineral!"

Who cares! We're kicking and playing.

Ask an adult what he's doing and he says something like, "I'm doing something serious." We have to make money. So we can rise up some ladder. So we can make use of our education and afford our mortgage and our kids' college educations.

Ok, I am not going to judge. I need to do this stuff also.
