Telepathy of the Dead

By John Blake / Source: CNN

Nina De Santo was about to close her New Jersey hair salon one winter's night when she saw him standing outside the shop's glass front door.It was Michael. He was a soft-spoken customer who'd been going through a brutal patch in his life. His wife had divorced him after having an affair with his stepbrother, and he had lost custody of his boy and girl in the ensuing battle.

He was emotionally shattered, but De Santo had tried to help. She'd listened to his problems, given him pep talks, taken him out for drinks.

When De Santo opened the door that Saturday night, Michael was smiling.

"Nina, I can't stay long," he said, pausing in the doorway. "I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for everything."

They chatted a bit more before Michael left and De Santo went home. On Sunday she received a strange call from a salon employee. Michael's body had been found the previous morning -- at least nine hours before she talked to him at her shop. He had committed suicide.

If Michael was dead, who, or what, did she talk to that night?

The 12-year-old Nostradamus of 1913

Source: Daily Mail

It was the year King George V was on the throne, the Morris Oxford two-seater car went on sale and frustrated suffragettes set fire to public property.

Against this backdrop, a 12-year-old schoolboy turned his thoughts to the future – and wrote down a list of predictions about life in the year 2000.

Edgar Codling, of Hillington, Norfolk, believed that by the turn of the century, aeroplanes would be as common as cars and bicycles would be cheap.

And he predicted a boom in leisure travel as well as an increase in affordable popular newspapers.

Mentalism Magic

Being Too Nice Will Backfire

By Clifford N. Lazarus, Ph.D. / Source: Psychology Today

Sally's husband was often abusive. One morning, over breakfast, Hank began yelling at her because she was on the phone instead of keeping him company. Later, after Hank went to work, Sally picked up his shirts from the laundry, ran some other errands for him, and decided to cook his favorite dish for dinner.  Do you think Sally did the right thing?

Sally, alas, believed that if she could only create an ideal loving home atmosphere, her husband's abusiveness would stop. Unfortunately, she was in fact rewarding her husband's negative behavior. In response to his outbursts, Hank found his chores done for him and he was served his favorite dinner. Why would he change his treatment of his wife when she responds so positively?

The events that follow an action will weaken or strengthen the likelihood it will occur again. In behavioral psychology, this is called the "Law of Effect" and states that behavior varies as a function of its consequences.

The Bizarre Beginnings of Hypnosis

By Clifford Mee: Source: Covert Hypnosis Exposed

Dr Franz Anton Mesmer was an Austrian physician living from 1734-1815. He is believed to be the founding father of hypnosis due to how he used magnets to heal people.

Sounds weird I know, but stay with me.

This development was the pivotal moment in the evolution of modern hypnosis because people realised - for the first time - that the operator (i.e. the hypnotist) had the responsibility to acquire a skill (i.e. learn hypnosis) in order to be able to help his patients heal.

It also laid the foundation for the idea that special trance states could be used for healing - which to this day is one of the core definitions of the hypnotic state.

Whilst many of the ideas that Dr Mesmer came up with have little bearing on our modern day
understanding of hypnosis, the practices he developed were genuinely hypnotic - albeit a little bizarre! Because of this, the terms "Mesmerism" and "Animal Magnetism" are to this day still synonymous in many minds with the the practice of hypnosis.

The Power of Deep Brain Stimulation and How to Use It to Transform Your Life

By Nelson Berry, Creator of Subliminal Video Messages

Have you ever explored the concept of deep brain stimulation? The brain is very powerful; it is like the central processing unit of our bodies. Only the experts understand how it works, and they don’t even fully grasp the concept. Thus, the brain is also very mysterious.

But we have also learned about techniques on how to penetrate the deeper, mysterious levels of the brain. One of these techniques is deep brain stimulation, a process that attempts to reach deep beyond our consciousness into the inner workings of the mind.

We are capable of understanding our thoughts and forming logical conclusions in our heads. But there is a huge part of our minds that we have no control over. This part usually applies its influences in random areas of our lives, whether we like it or not.

And we find ourselves unable to control our own minds, our own habits, actions, behaviors, desires, fears, and decisions. These uncontrollable processes of the mind are all the works of the subconscious mind, a powerful state of consciousness that we have no access to and yet it has all the access to our life.

Set Ambitious Goals to Be Happier

By Courtney Rubin / Source: Inc.

As if you needed another reason to aim high: Ambition makes you happier, says new research.

People who set themselves ambitious goals tend to be more satisfied than those with lower expectations, says a study published online in the Journal of Consumer Research.

University of California-Riverside professorCecile K. Cho conducted two experiments, one involving stock-picking and another involving puzzles, to compare people who set ambitious goals to those who set more conservative goals. She then measured the level of satisfaction with the achieved goals, and found those who set high goals for themselves were happier in the long run.

"The moral of the story is don’t sell yourself short," Cho said. "Aim high."

Zapping the brain with magnets makes it impossible to lie

Source: Daily Mail

If truth be told, magnetic interference with the brain makes it impossible to lie. At least, that’s what a group of Estonian researchers are claiming.

They found that when magnets were applied to either the right or left side of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, found directly behind your forehead, it made you lie or tell the truth, depending on which side was stimulated.

When magnetic interference was directed at another part of the brain, the parietal lobe, the subjects’ decision-making remain unchanged.

‘Spontaneous choice to lie more or less can be influenced by brain stimulation,’ researchers Inga Karton and Talis Bachmann wrote in Behavioural Brain Research.

15 Secret Abilities of Chi Power & ESP

By A. Thomas Perhacs / Creator of Chi Power Training

When one thinks of Chi Power Training or Qigong, the concept of developing Extra Sensory Perception or ESP becomes a very real possibility. How does a physical exercise like Chi Power Training or Qigong relate to the development of Psychic abilities or ESP?

The one key factor that one must realize is that physical "Internal" training can have a direct result on mental capabilities as it relates to ESP.

The reason is that when you combine certain physical exercises with mental exercises, you create a way to tap into the inner resources of the Mind, Body connection.

Many have searched far and wide to learn these supposed secret abilities. These "secrets" are really returning the body back to the way it was when we were younger and had perception. As we get older, we come to dismiss the abilities we had as children.

Why Overconfidence Leads to Success

By Christine Dell'Amore / Source: National Geographic News

Believing you're better than you are may help you succeed, a new study says.

For years, psychologists have observed that people routinely overestimate their abilities, said study leader Dominic Johnson, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Some experts have suggested that overconfidence can be a good thing, perhaps by boosting ambition, resolve, and other traits, creating self-fulfilling prophecies.

But positive self-delusion can also lead to faulty assessments, unrealistic expectations, and hazardous decisions, according to the study—making it a mystery why overconfidence remains a key human trait despite thousands of years of natural selection, which typically weeds out harmful traits over generations.
Now, new computer simulations show that a false sense of optimism, whether when deciding to go to war or investing in a new stock, can often improve your chances of winning.

"There hasn't been a good explanation for why we are overconfident, and this new model offers a kind of evolutionary logic for that," Johnson said. "It's unlikely to be an accident—we're perhaps overconfident for a good reason."

How to Solve Problems With Your Subconscious Mind

By Michael Michalko / Source: Psychology Today

Sometimes ideas do not appear when you are concentrating your attention and mysteriously appear when you are not. Modern science recognizes this as a result of incubating the problem in your subconscious yet can't account for why it occurs.

A majority of scientists, artists,  and writers report that they get their best ideas and insights when not thinking about the problem. Ideas come while walking, recreating, or working on some other unrelated problem. This suggests how the creative act came to be associated with Adivine inspiration@ for the illumination appears to be involuntary.

The more problems, ideas and thoughts that you think about from time to time, the more complex becomes the network of information in your mind. The more work you put into thinking about a problem, the more thoughts and bits of information you put into random motion.

When you quit thinking about the subject and decide to forget it, your subconscious mind doesn't quit working. Your thoughts keep colliding, combining and making associations. This is why you've experienced suddenly remembering names, getting solutions to problems you've forgotten about, and ideas out of the blue when you are relaxing and not thinking about any particular thing.

Why 'Unrealistic' Goals Are Easier to Achieve

By Timothy Ferris,
Excerpt from The 4-Hour Work Week

I had to bribe them. What other choice did I have?

My lecture at Princeton had just ended with smiles and enthusiastic questions.

At the same time, I knew that most students would go out and promptly do the opposite of what I preached. Most of them would be putting in 80-hour weeks as high-paid coffee fetchers unless I showed that the principles from class could actually be applied.

Hence the challenge.

I was offering a round-trip ticket anywhere in the world to anyone who could complete an undefined “challenge” in the most impressive fashion possible. Results plus style. I told them to meet me after class if interested, and here they were, nearly 20 out of 60 students.

The task was designed to test their comfort zones while forcing them to use some of the tactics I teach. It was simplicity itself: contact three seemingly impossible-to-reach people—J Lo., Warren Buffett, Bill Clinton, J.D. Salinger, I don’t care—and get at least one to reply to three questions…

Of 20 students, all frothing at the mouth to win a free spin across the globe, how many completed it?

Exactly… none. Not a one.

The Super Computer That Sees The Future

News abounds at lightning speeds—on the Internet and T.V., in newspapers, magazines, blogs, and social networking sites—but what do we get when we consume news? Scientist Kalev Leetaru believes news is capable of teaching us much more than just what happened in the world today.

“News gives you incredible information about people, places, and organizations,” says Leetaru, assistant director for Text and Digital Media Analytics at the Institute for Computing in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Science at the Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. “It also tells you about the relationships between them, about how people view each other.”

The field of digital humanities is growing, which is why Leetaru took his research to the resources at the Univ. of Tennessee’s (UT) National Institute for Computational Sciences (NICS).

Using a large, shared memory supercomputer called Nautilus, Leetaru has analyzed the tone and geographic dimensions of a 30-year archive of global news to produce real-time forecasts of human behavior such as national conflicts and the movement of specific individuals.

Your Month of Birth Guides Your Career Path

Source: The Telegraph

Being born in a certain month appears to indicate the statistical likelihood of what job a person will end up with, the study by the Office for National Statistics found.

Researchers have uncovered that the month in which babies are born could also affect everything from intelligence to length of life.

A child born December is more likely to become a dentist while someone whose birthday falls in January will tend to a debt collector, they found.

A February birth appears to increase the chances of being an artist while March babies appear to go on to become pilots.

The Triggers of Mind Control

By Paul J. Mascetta / Creator of The Code of Influence

People are everywhere. That’s why being persuasive determines how effective we are. Where we live, what we do, and even who we love involves influence on one level or another. And by learning the art of “dealing with and convincing people to do what you want them to do”, we can instantly improve our lives.

With so much information around us and so many decisions to make every single day, there isn’t enough time to evaluate everything rationally. And so we rely on subconscious shortcuts to make things easier.

This is why, as irrational beings, we’re susceptible to mental triggers. “People are definitely more likely to believe what you say, based on logic,” Mascetta admits, “but ultimately it is their emotion that will move them to take action.”

The Army's Plan for Telepathic Soldiers

By Adam Piore / Source: Discover Magazine

On a cold, blustery afternoon the week before Halloween, an assortment of spiritual mediums, animal communicators, and astrologists have set up tables in the concourse beneath the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York. The cavernous hall of shops that
connects the buildings in this 98-acre complex is a popular venue for autumnal events: Oktoberfest, the Maple Harvest Festival, and today’s “Mystic Fair.”

Traffic is heavy as bureaucrats with ID badges dangling from their necks stroll by during their lunch breaks. Next to the Albany Paranormal Research Society table, a middle-aged woman is solemnly explaining the workings of an electromagnetic sensor that can, she asserts, detect the presence of ghosts. Nearby, a “clairvoyant” ushers a government worker in a suit into her canvas tent. A line has formed at the table of a popular tarot card reader.

Amid all the bustle and transparent hustles, few of the dabblers at the Mystic Fair are aware that there is a genuine mind reader in the building, sitting in an office several floors below the concourse. This mind reader is not able to pluck a childhood memory or the name of a loved one out of your head, at least not yet. But give him time. He is applying hard science to an aspiration that was once relegated to clairvoyants, and unlike his predecessors, he can point to some hard results.

How to Control The "Command Center" In Your Prospect's Mind

By Dr. Joe Vitale

Here's a million-dollar secret I've never shared with anyone before. When you use it, you will get inside your prospects' heads and manipulate their thinking to get them to do what you want---including sending you money right now for your product or service. Sound hard to believe? Keep reading and I'll prove my point to you.

Right now, as you read these words, you are practicing the very thing I'm going to describe. Centuries ago people read books by moving their lips. Over time---and probably due to complaints from the family---people learned to close their mouths. But virtually all people still read the letters you send them by saying the words in their head, almost as if they were speaking them out loud, but in reality speaking only to themselves. You're probably doing it right now.

You are, aren't you? It doesn't reflect anything about your intelligence. It's how most of us read. I read more than most people and I still read the same way you do, "mouthing" the words in my head. It's how most of us humans accept the written word. Relax. You're normal.

Why is this important?

Because this is a way for you to plant hypnotic commands right into the skulls of people. This is staggering power. When people read your sales letter, you are, in essence, right INSIDE the head of the very person you want to persuade. They are speaking your words---your commands, if you do this right---to themselves. You are in their "command center."

How to Lose 20 Pounds on your Vacation

By Michael Park / Escape From America Magazine

There are many things that remind me that I’m back in America when I return from a trip abroad. These include yellow Crown Victoria cabs waiting to pick up weary travelers and soft sesame bagels with cream cheese. However, there is one thing that always tells me, without a doubt, that I’ve returned to America. Obesity.

It’s everywhere: the rotund security guard at the flight gate, the triple-chinned customs official, that lady in the pink sweat-suit waddling over to Ben & Jerry’s. A Frenchman might return to Charles de Gaulle International, smell freshly baked French pastries, and get that distinct sensation that he has returned to the motherland. I get that same feeling when I witness someone devour two entire sleeves of oreos en route to baggage claim.

Our culture of supersized meals, cars, and desk-bound jobs has created a perfect storm of empty calories and sedentary lifestyles that make us lethargic and bloated. I know this because I was once like that – I speak from experience as a “former fat guy.”

How to Be Free

Harry Browne's Freedom Principles By Frederick Mann

Freedom consists of a lack of desire to control others
.

In 1973 author Harry Browne in the midst of a long career as an iconoclast wrote a book that was the most iconoclastic thing he ever wrote. Most of Harry's books were Investment Books, and while far from dry, they did not prepare the reader for the excitement and revelation of his Freedom book.

The book, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World, was more than the sum of its parts. It was philosophy, without the baggage that the word philosophy engenders. It provided the reader with clearly defined guide-lines explaining how to attain freedom, and clear explanations of how we often sabotage of own efforts to be free, and suggestions of how we can defuse that sabotage within ourselves.

I read How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World in 1973, and it changed my life radically and for the better. It showed me what freedom was and how to attain it.

Does the Past Exist Yet?

By Robert Lanza, M.D. / Source: Huffington Post

Recent discoveries require us to rethink our understanding of history. "The histories of the universe," said renowned physicist Stephen Hawking "depend on what is being measured, contrary to the usual idea that the universe has an objective observer-independent history."

Is it possible we live and die in a world of illusions? Physics tells us that objects exist in a suspended state until observed, when they collapse in to just one outcome. Paradoxically, whether events happened in the past may not be determined until sometime in your future -- and may even depend on actions that you haven't taken yet.

In 2002, scientists carried out an amazing experiment, which showed that particles of light "photons" knew -- in advance −- what their distant twins would do in the future. They tested the communication between pairs of photons -- whether to be either a wave or a particle.

Researchers stretched the distance one of the photons had to take to reach its detector, so that the other photon would hit its own detector first. The photons taking this path already finished their journeys -− they either collapse into a particle or don't before their twin encounters a scrambling device. Somehow, the particles acted on this information before it happened, and across distances instantaneously as if there was no space or time between them. They decided not to become particles before their twin ever encountered the scrambler.

It doesn't matter how we set up the experiment. Our mind and its knowledge is the only thing that determines how they behave.
