GUARD: The Switchword for Protection

By Shunyam Nirav
Switchwords.com

Terrorist attacks, wars, riots, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, diseases, accidents, robberies ... the hazards and dangers of the modern world are many. Though as an individual you may not be able to influence whether these things happen or not, you can influence whether you will be harmed by them by using a simple effective metaphysical technique.

Declare, affirm, or mentally chant the protection switchword GUARD anytime you do something risky to your well-being (physically or otherwise), or anytime you are in danger. You can also declare it for property you want to protect from harm or theft; and to some extent, even for other people (your children, relatives, friends, associates), and animals and plants.

Ideas, impulses, or hunches may come to you after you begin using the switchword GUARD, which you should follow to bring about the protection -- or the protection may (seemingly miraculously) just instantly manifest. In whatever way it manifests, it is worth remembering (CARE) that the essence of protection is GUARD.

The Simple Process of Creating Whatever You Desire

By Adrian Cooper
Creator of the Mind Power Studio

We will now look at the very important process of manifestation; the conscious creation of your own reality; the manifestation of your wishes and desires. Always remember; there is absolutely nothing that you cannot be, do or have.

It is highly advisable before embarking on any manifestation project to meditate upon, or consider very deeply whether you really do need and desire any specific objective to manifest into your life and the life of those around you. Sometimes what seems to be a very good idea and desirable idea at the time turns out to be decidedly less than desirable once it manifests as a reality into your life.

The process of creating anything and everything you could possibly desire is a natural, God given ability that everyone possesses, it is just that most simply do not know or realise it. The Universe is infinitely abundant; there are no limits on wealth or anything else. When you know beyond any doubt that you are indeed a creator, a co-creator within this magnificent Universe in which we live, an aspect of The Source, The First Cause, God, then you will know beyond any doubts in your very being that you can realise all of your wishes.

The process of manifestation is conceptually extremely simple, consisting of the following five steps: Know, Ask, Experience, Action and Gratitude.

1) Know your desire.
2) Ask for your desire.
3) Experience your desire.
4) Action towards your desire.
5) Gratitude for your desire.

8 Ways to Become a Luckier Person

SOURCE: HypTalk.com

It is my belief that luck is something that you can create, rather than there are just lucky and unlucky people in the world.

If you would like to believe the latter, no need to read further. You can just continue with your old expressions: "I have bad luck" or "Nothing good ever happens to me" or "Good things only happen to other people." And that is what you will continue to create.

However, if you are ready to change your luck, by doing a few simple techniques, which can be significantly amplified through the power of hypnosis; allowing these ideas to penetrate your subconscious mind, then do read on.

Let me begin by making a basic distinction between luck and chance. Chance is something that is unpredictable; those events that just happen at random in the world. However, the moment you are exposed to chance and it has an emotional impact on you, (i.e. it makes you happy, elated, joyful, peaceful, or some other positive emotion) chance becomes good luck.

Luck then is your ability to take advantage of chance. And the amount of chance encounters that are happening all around us are unlimited ... you just have to be able to see them and act upon them.

NASA Studies Savant's Amazing Brain

By Robin McKie,
The Observer

It took Kim Peek just over an hour to read Tom Clancy's The Hunt for Red October. Four months later, when asked to give the name of the book's Russian radio operator, Peek quoted the entire relevant passage.

It was a prodigious feat. Yet for Peek - the real-life 'savant' on whom Dustin Hoffman's character in the film Rain Man is based - such recall only gives a glimpse of his powers. He knows 9,000 books off by heart; he can direct people around US cities from maps he has memorised years ago; and he has total recall of the dates of all major world events.

Now studies of Peek's abilities are being used by scientists to shed intriguing light on the human mind, and to open the way for men and women to exploit far more of their intellectual potential, as the latest issue of Scientific American reveals.

Researchers Seek Brain Wave Access to Bank Accounts

SOURCE: AFP

Canadian researchers hope to soon be able to use brain waves to unlock doors and get access to bank accounts. Some companies are already offering iris recognition systems that many countries want to put into biometric passports. But Julie Thorpe, a researcher at Carleton University in Ottawa wants to take the idea much much further.

She says it is possible to do away with key cards, pin numbers and a litany of other security tools that allow people to retrieve bank money, access computer data or enter restricted buildings.

"A user would simply think their password," said Thorpe, who hopes to develop the first biometric security device to read your mind to authenticate users.

Her idea, yet to be proven viable for commercial application, assumes that brainwave signals, like fingerprints, vary slightly from person to person, even when they think alike.

"Everyone's brainwave signal is a bit different even when they think about the same thing. They're unique just like fingerprints," she told AFP.

Hypnosis Can Work Wonders

The Dallas Morning News

Hypnosis has caught on as a weapon in the battle of the bulge - and various vices.
And mental health experts say it's drawing dieters to their doorsteps.

"I get more referrals from physicians than ever for habits like tobacco-use cessation, weight control, nail-biting and others," said Dr. Douglas Bellamy, 64, a psychologist in Texas who has practiced hypnosis since the early 1980s.

"Hypnosis is becoming more recognized as an important technique in the treatment of many medical and psychological conditions."

In turn, health professionals - from doctors to psychologists, dentists, social workers and nurses - are availing themselves of training through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, which has about 2,300 members.

"Based on the traffic on our Web-based referral database, the number of people seeking a practitioner who will use clinical hypnosis in their treatment is increasing," said a spokeswoman for the society, based in the Chicago area.

Smoking cessation, labor and delivery, and weight loss generate the most interest. But requests also stream in from people with phobias or chronic pain, cancer patients and those dealing with mental health issues.

Successful Aging is All in the Mind

Seniors' perceptions of the aging process depend not on disease or physical disability, but rather on attitude and coping style. This research, conducted at and funded by the Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research on Aging at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, is unusual in that it employed subjective reports as a measure of successful aging.

"The medical community has not reached consensus on what constitutes successful aging," says lead researcher Dilip Jeste, M.D., Estelle and Edgar Levi Chair in Aging and Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at UCSD.

"The commonly used criteria suggest that a person is aging well if they have a low level of disease and disability. However, this study shows that self-perception about aging can be more important than the traditional success markers."

Subliminal Messages: Deceiving the Mind

By Autumn C. Koerbel,
AskMen.com

Although you might not realize it, subliminal messages are probably being used on you. Used mainly as advertising tools, such messages are designed to be relayed without their targets ever being conscious of them.

Because of this, their use is banned in most major countries. Nonetheless, subliminal messages continue to be disseminated throughout the media world, deceiving those who encounter them.

Subliminal messages were apparently first unleashed on the American public in the 1950s by James Vicary, an advertising executive. Vicary performed a study at movie theaters in which the words "Drink Coca-Cola" and "Eat Popcorn" were flashed on the screen, yet so quickly that the unwary audience didn't consciously notice them. Vicary claimed that sales on popcorn and Coke accordingly soared at the concession stands, jumping 57.7% and 18.1% respectively. Although no substantial results were demonstrated, this story has been around for over 50 years.

Subliminal messaging can be defined as the use of a signal or message designed to pass below the normal limits of perception. These messages are typically undetectable to the naked eye or ear, cloaked from the conscious mind and yet perceived unconsciously.

Scientists Enter Brain's 'Matrix'

Source: CNN

In a breakthrough that brings the technology of futuristic film "The Matrix" closer to reality, scientists say they have cracked part of the brain's own computer code.

A team of neurology experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) say they have deciphered brain waves used in the recognition of visual images.

The development, reported in the journal Science, is reminiscent of the cult sci-fi film in which Keanu Reeves "jacks" into a computer system using a cable hardwired to his brain.

Neuroscientists at MIT's McGovern Institute hope they will be able to mimic brain codes to improve computer algorithms used in artificial vision.

"We want to know how the brain works to create intelligence," Tomaso Poggio, who carried out the research with James DiCarlo, told MIT's news office.

"Being Happy is the Most Noble Thing You Can Do For the World"

By Paul Hughes,
Editor,
FutureHi.net

It is with great pleasure that I write for you today, because I am again reminded how important it is for us to pursue our highest most joyous good.

Deep and abiding happiness, a lightness of being beyond all we thought possible, IS POSSIBLE, right now. It is already here waiting for you to experience it. It welcomes you with open arms.

So what's holding you back? Perhaps it is the state of the world that has got you down. For many of us, there is this apparent striking disconnect from the mainstream media, and what we are told to believe and do believe based on what we are told. For example, we are told to believe that everything in Iraq is going well, which for those of us paying attention, is not going well at all.

Truth is, it doesn't matter what they are telling you. The question becomes not who or what to believe, but what to do with whatever you know and remake it for your own highest good. Is it possible or moral to feel so much happiness and joy and freedom, while so many others do not?

The answer is yes, Yes, and Yes!

The 7 Secrets To Knowing Your Higher Self

By Asoka Selvarajah, Ph.D
Author of 7 Golden Secrets of Knowing Your Higher Self

Each of us is connected with the Divine. The Higher Self within us far transcends the understanding of our conscious minds. This is the power that all the great geniuses and teachers of history have accessed. It is also the place of magic and miracle in our lives. Here are the seven key steps to contact it:

1. Belief & Expectation: Transform Your World View!

The first step is to BELIEVE that you have a Higher Self to establish communication with! Then EXPECT every day that this communication will improve as you focus diligently on inner growth. Without these two essential pre-requisites, it is hard to achieve anything at all in life, even on the physical level. For inner growth, these two qualities are essential. So set a GOAL to achieve contact with the Higher Self, review that goal daily, and maintain your purpose with determination until success is yours.

We are brought up with a primarily materialistic world view that neglects the role of Spirit. To establish close contact with spiritual realms, we need to have our entire being - conscious and subconscious - congruent with our goal. In any major activity/goal, you have to establish the rules of the game and the way it is played. Contacting your Higher Self is the same. Therefore, seek out writings and teachers that expand your understanding of the universe as fundamentally being a realm of Consciousness and Mind.

2. Solitude & Meditation

Make regular time for yourself where you can be totally alone. A quiet place is preferable. Just sit quietly with no expectations. Do NOTHING. This may feel very uncomfortable and strange in the beginning. Persist. You give time and space for the inner voice to make itself heard. It will do so either during that quiet time, or else during the events of the day. A synchronistic event will occur; someone will tell you exactly what you need to hear; you will get a sudden flash of insight. All the great geniuses of history have found times of regular solitude and silence for themselves. You should too.

In meditation, you work to discipline your mind and silence the internal chatter that constantly fill it. You create a pure vessel for the Higher Self to fill. Following your breath is an excellent meditation discipline, as is concentrating upon a candle flame. Or visualize a golden ball of light in your Solar Plexus that fills your whole body with energy and healing. There are many practices that you can study and use.

Instant Altered States via Dreamachine

By Mark Allen
New York Times News Service

At first glance it looked like something in the window of a TriBeCa furniture store, an oversize lamp from the early '60s maybe. But when Kate Chapman flicked a switch and the 3-foot high latticework cylinder in front of me began to spin, it was clear that we were dealing with more than just another piece of midcentury flotsam.

The machine started to cast strobelike patterns of bright light on our faces, and when I closed my eyes as instructed, there they were, the dazzling multicolored forms that I'd been told about: mandalas and crosses and even Mandelbrot fractals, dancing across my eyelids.

I was sitting on the floor of Chapman's Brooklyn loft, and she was demonstrating her prized household appliance, a 1996 Dreamachine originally made for William S. Burroughs. Besides the trippy visual effects, the device is said to induce an "alpha state" - a state conducive to lucid dreaming or intense daydreaming - in people who face the cylinder with their eyes closed as it spins around a bright light.

Dreamachine enthusiasts - whose ranks have swelled recently thanks to chat forums and a book published last year - claim that it promotes a trancelike serenity, intensifies creativity and insight and even uncovers suppressed memories.

Coffee Is Good For Your Brain

By Gaia Vince
New Scientist

Coffee improves short-term memory and speeds up reaction times by acting on the brain’s prefrontal cortex, according to a new study.

Researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to determine how coffee activates different areas of the brain in 15 volunteers.

“Caffeine modulates a higher brain function through its effects on distinct areas of the brain,” explains Florian Koppelstätter, who carried out the research with colleagues at the Medical University at Innsbruck, Austria.

Prior to testing, the group fasted for 4 to 6 hours, and abstained from caffeine and nicotine for at least 24 hours. Then they were then given either a cup of strong coffee – containing 100 milligrams of caffeine – or a caffeine-free placebo drink. After 20 minutes all participants underwent fMRI scans while carrying out a memory and concentration test. A few days afterwards the experiment was repeated under the same conditions but each received the other drink.

This Is Your Brain Under Hypnosis

By Sandra Blakeslee
The New York Times

Hypnosis, with its long and checkered history in medicine and entertainment, is receiving some new respect from neuroscientists. Recent brain studies of people who are susceptible to suggestion indicate that when they act on the suggestions their brains show profound changes in how they process information. The suggestions, researchers report, literally change what people see, hear, feel and believe to be true.

The new experiments, which used brain imaging, found that people who were hypnotized "saw" colors where there were none. Others lost the ability to make simple decisions. Some people looked at common English words and thought that they were gibberish.

"The idea that perceptions can be manipulated by expectations" is fundamental to the study of cognition, said Michael I. Posner, an emeritus professor of neuroscience at the University of Oregon and expert on attention. "But now we're really getting at the mechanisms."

Even with little understanding of how it works, hypnosis has been used in medicine since the 1950's to treat pain and, more recently, as a treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, irritable bowel syndrome and eating disorders.

There is, however, still disagreement about what exactly the hypnotic state is or, indeed, whether it is anything more than an effort to please the hypnotist or a natural form of extreme concentration where people become oblivious to their surroundings while lost in thought.

Money Does Buy Happiness

SOURCE: Reuters

Japanese women are cheerier than men, people grow glummer as they age, and money can buy happiness -- up to a point.

Those were among the findings of a recent survey on what makes Japanese people happy, the researcher, Osaka University professor Yoshiro Tsutsui, said Friday.

A majority were pretty satisfied with their lot in life -- only 13 percent of the 4,224 respondents gave themselves a "happiness rating" of four or lower on a scale of zero to 10.

Men tended to be a bit less happy than women, perhaps because Japan's male-dominated society means they have bigger social responsibilities, Tsutsui said in a report on the survey.

Happiness rose along with per capita income until earners reached the highest bracket, at which point it dipped somewhat.

"It seems when people are satisfied with their income, other factors then matter more," Tsutsui told Reuters.
