Exercise Cuts Depression In Half

Thirty minutes of daily exercise can cut depression symptoms as much as some antidepressants and psychotherapy.

"The effect you find using aerobic exercise alone in treating clinical depression is similar to what you find with antidepressant medications," says Madhukar Trivedi of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, coauthor of a new study on the mental benefits of physical activity. "The key is the intensity of the exercise and continuing it for 30 to 35 minutes per day. It's not for the faint of heart."

Alcohol May Prevent Dementia

Evidence is mounting that moderate alcohol intake can fight age-related cognitive decline.

Mark Espeland of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and colleagues have provided support for a study published just a few days ago showing that a drink a day keeps cognitive decline away.

"In our study, older women who drank moderate amounts of alcohol tended to perform better on tests for cognitive function and dementia," says Espeland. "Most of these women drank one or two drinks per day."

Scientists Can Read Your Mind

By Scott C. Anderson
ScienceForPeople.com

You no longer have to go to Madame LeFoni's to have a mind-reading session. Scientists can read your mind too, at least a little. And what they see when they look into your mind is, well, thought-provoking.

How do those tricky scientists pull off this legerdemain? They use a special type of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) that can measure minute flows of blood in your brain.

How does this spooky mind-reading trick work? It uses an intriguing aspect of MRI, namely that it can precisely locate specific types of molecules in a 3D space like your head (unless your head is only 2D -- in which case we can read what's on your mind by looking at your thought balloons).

So if you're thinking about a rib-eye steak smothered in mushrooms (never write articles when you're hungry), can these scientists see a picture of it in your brain?

Well, almost.

Devices Controlled by Thought Move Closer

By Belle Dumé
PhysicsWeb

Scientists in the US have shown that "electrocorticographic" signals from the brain can be used to manipulate an external device. The techniques developed by Daniel Moran of Washington University in St Louis, Eric Leuthardt from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, also in St Louis, and colleagues could ultimately lead to artificial limbs that can be controlled by thought alone.

From studies on animals scientists know that specific nerve cells become active just before the animal makes a certain movement. By processing the electric signals from these cells it is possible to predict the movement before it is actually made. The same information could also be used to make an artificial limb perform the same movement.

How to Control Your Dreams

By Bradley Thompson
www.Lucid-Dreaming-Kit.com

Five years ago, I was one frustrated lucid dreamer.

Although a prolific self development author, I simply couldn't experience lucid dreams consistently. It had just "happened" on a few occasions, but I could never tap into that part of my brain "on demand." I knew there had to be a way... I just needed to discover it.

And I did.

Let me tell you that I bought every single product on the market. As an author, I was also invited to review all the latest courses and new devices. Some tools worked short-term, others had mere placebo value. But along the way, I found a few gems that I added to my "good" list.

Over the past five years, I've built a small network of friends and colleagues interested in lucid dreaming. We've tried and tested literally everything. We've followed University studies and "homegrown" courses. I've even invented my own special methods that you'll find NOWHERE ELSE.

And you know what?

There's a way to experience lucid dreaming, ON DEMAND.
Guaranteed.

The Powers and Perils of Intuition

By David G Myers
Psychology Today

After a career spent pondering the connections between subjective and objective truth, feeling and fact, and intuition and reality, I'm predisposed to welcoming unbidden hunches. I once took an instant liking to a fellow teenager, to whom I've now been married nearly 40 years. Upon meeting job applicants, before I can explain my feelings, my gut sometimes reacts within seconds. As a sign in Albert Einstein's office is rumored to have read, "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."

But from science and everyday life, I know that my intuition-an effortless, immediate, unreasoned sense of truth-sometimes errs. My gut tells me that Reno is east of Los Angeles and that Atlanta is east of Detroit, but I am wrong. "The first principle," said Einstein's fellow physicist, Richard Feynman, "is that you must not fool yourself-and you are the easiest person to fool."

There is also the quandary of mining untapped intuitive powers. When hiring, firing and investing, should we plug into our "right brain" premonitions? Or, with bright people so often believing demonstrably dumb things, do we instead need more "left brain" rationality?

Here, I present psychology's assessment of intuition's powers and perils. Consider the importance of intuition to a judge or juror determining the fates of individuals, an investor affecting fortunes or a clinician determining a client's suicidality. Intuitions shape our anxieties, impressions and relationships. They influence the president's judgments, a gambler's bets and a personnel director's hiring decisions. Our gut level intuitions have helped us all avert-and sometimes enabled-misfortunes. "Nobody can dictate my behavior," said Diana, Princess of Wales, in her last interview before her fatal accident. "I work through instinct, and instinct is my best counselor."

How To Train Your Mind

By Karim Hajee
www.CreatingPower.com

Disiciplining your mind so that it is focused on your goals is crucial to your success. If your mind is not trained to focus on and achieve your goals then you really have no chance at success. Your mind is a direct link to your subconscious mind, if your mind is focused on your goals and is trained to achieve those goals then your subconscious mind will also be focused on these goals and will attract the situations and opportunities for you to achieve the success you want.

When your mind is focused on the results of those goals you'll take the action necessary to follow up and make sure you achieve those goals. The minute you get distracted for a prolonged period - you lose sight of your objective and fail to accomplish those goals.

Think of it this way, you're riding in a car driven by your personal driver and everytime your driver asks you where you want to go you simply say: "I don't know. Wherever you want to go is fine with me." Then when your driver takes you to the place of his choice you complain and say: "I don't want to be here, take me somewhere else." And again you say you don't know where you want to go.

If you don't train your mind to focus on your goals then your subconscious mind cannot create the situations that will help you achieve those goals and in the end your subconscious gets confused - thus creating more confusion for you -- and you end up exactly where you don't want to be.

Meditation Changes Your Brain

By Marc Kaufman
Washington Post

Brain research is beginning to produce concrete evidence for something that Buddhist practitioners of meditation have maintained for centuries: Mental discipline and meditative practice can change the workings of the brain and allow people to achieve different levels of awareness.

Those transformed states have traditionally been understood in transcendent terms, as something outside the world of physical measurement and objective evaluation.

But over the past few years, researchers at the University of Wisconsin working with Tibetan monks have been able to translate those mental experiences into the scientific language of high-frequency gamma waves and brain synchrony, or coordination. And they have pinpointed the left prefrontal cortex, an area just behind the left forehead, as the place where brain activity associated with meditation is especially intense.

The Milagro Research Institute

It's my pleausre to announce our latest breakthrough -- Listen and Grow Rich.

You know how valuable the information in Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" is; how otherwise "normal" people have used his strategies to realize their dreams. It's known as the "book that makes millionaires."

You've also read (I hope) our "Think and Grow Rich Workbook."

We've taken that information to the next level with "Listen and Grow Rich."

Imagine this - you put on your headphones and press "Play." Scientifically designed music plays. Milagro VF binaurals cause your mind to automatically focus with laser-like intensity- That's our "enhanced learning technology."

Then, as you're in the optimum state, you hear the "gold" from Napoleon Hill's famous book as it's injected directly into your mind.

It's the most powerful method ever created for delivering this essential content.

We've bundled that with the workbook, a copy of the original book, and over $350 worth of bonus material.

There's a free sample online at http://www.ListenAndGrowRich.com

A Laugh a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

HealthTalk.ca

Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, have discovered laughter can help keep your heart healthy.

The team found that laughter-provoking movies cause the tissue that forms the inner lining of blood vessels, the endothelium, to dilate or expand, resulting in an increase of blood flow.

For their experiment, the team recruited 20 healthy volunteers to watch two segments of movies at the extreme ends of the emotional spectrum - "King Pin" and "Saving Private Ryan."

They found that when the study subjects watched a movie that caused laughter, beneficial blood vessel relaxation or vasodilation was increased in 19 of the 20 volunteers. In contrast, Brachial artery flow was reduced in 14 of the 20 volunteers following the movie clips that caused mental stress.

The team said overall, blood flow increased by 22 percent during laughter and decreased by 35 percent after watching a clip that caused mental stress.

Lead researcher Dr. Michael Miller, indicated people should combine regular exercise with 15 minutes of laughter a day for good cardiovascular health.

"It is conceivable that laughing may be important to maintain a healthy endothelium, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease," said Miller.

Former Russian President Paid for Protection from Psychic Attacks

MosNews

A former KGB agent has revealed that former Russian President Boris Yeltsin had a special “psychic security department” to protect him from external psychological influence.

Officer Yuri Malin, former KGB officer and consultant of Boris Yeltsin’s Federal Security Service, reportedly told UPI that that the Russian secret services had a special department to protect top Russian officials from malevolent scientists and extrasensory individuals, who might create devices that were capable of affecting human psychology.

Malin added that Yeltsin was more cautious than his successor Vladimir Putin, who is not protected from “psychic pollution,” and his staff has no professionals to help him combat external psychophysical influence.

Can God Stop Your Pain?

By Ian Sample, The Guardian

Scientists at Oxford University are to torture people in laboratories in an experiment to see whether a belief in God is effective at relieving pain.

The scientists will apply a chilli-based gel to the skin of volunteers and ask them to try different strategies to lessen the burning sensation, including asking people with strong religious beliefs to draw on their faith to cope with the pain.

The experiment is one in a series that sees scientists join forces with philosophers, theologians and brain surgeons to tackle some of the most profound questions of the human condition: what is the nature of consciousness and how do religious beliefs manifest themselves in our brains?

The study could help to reveal how faith is represented in the brain. Other projects will look into the conditions that make people susceptible to strong yet irrational beliefs, such as the age people are exposed to certain ideas and the frequency with which religious messages are reinforced.

Conversations With God: The Movie

Spiritual Cinema Circle

CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD spent 3 years on the New York Times bestseller list, sold over 7 million copies in 34 languages and launched thousands of discussion groups around the world.

Over the past ten years, Walsch has received multiple offers from producers (and one major studio) to turn his book and life story into a film. He turned them all down because he did not want his story to be "Hollywood-ized."

Last year, Stephen Simon, The Circle's co-founder and veteran Hollywood producer of SOMEWHERE IN TIME, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME and 23 other features, directed Neale in the film INDIGO (which premieres on January 29 in 100 Digital AMC Theaters and more than 400 churches around the world - see www.indigothemovie.com).

While working on Indigo, (Neale played the grandfather of an Indigo child), Walsch observed that Simon has "an extraordinarily high level of artistic integrity, vision, and willingness to collaborate" and he finally agreed to have the CWG story told on the big screen.

And this is no ordinary story.

"Just five years before I became an author, I was homeless, with a broken neck, living in a park. I spent my days collecting cans to sell for $5 a day just to have enough money to eat and live. It was important to me that my story not become Hollywood-ized," Walsch explains.

The Power of Negative Thinking

While research has shown the power of self-fulfilling prophecies to negatively affect their owner's behavior, new evidence has underscored just how much they can negatively affect the behavior of others.

American researcher Stephanie Madon and colleagues at Iowa State University in Ames examined the power of negative thinking by studying how the false beliefs of mothers and fathers predict the amount of drinking by their adolescent children over a year.

Parents' negative beliefs predicted their children's alcohol use beyond risk factors, a self-fulfilling prophecy effect that was strongest when both parents overestimated their child's alcohol use. When both parents underestimated their child's alcohol use, there appeared to be no such positive synergistic effect.

How To Create Energy Out of Nothing

By Kacper Postawski
PowerfulSleep.com

A lot of people feel "tired", and blame it on not getting enough sleep or on other external factors. Basically, the fact that they're tired is always "out of control." What they don't know is that there's a reason for feeling "tired", and that there's a simple method to change "tired" to "energized" in a heartbeat....

Most of us feel tired during one of the following four situations:
1) After waking up in the morning.
2) After intense physical activity or long hours of work.
3) After sitting in one place for a long period of time.
4) During the evening, or in the late evening hours.

What do all these four situations have in common? There's one very common process that happens in our bodies in all four cases. During all of these we all experience very similar "symptoms" of tiredness. These include yawning, rubbing our eyes, feeling sllooowww, and having the urge to just get into bed and sleep.

Confessions of a Spoiled Brat

By Randy Gage
www.ProsperityUniverse.com

Ok I admit it. I’m an expensive date.

Fast food ain’t gonna cut it. Don’t be taking me to no slop
house buffets. And don’t even think about any place that has
placemats on the table!

Sporting event? I want to be close enough to see the guys
sweat. Opera? Better be in a private box. Symphony? I want
to be close enough to see the conductor sweat.

I want fresh cut flowers delivered every week. A state of the
art stereo system piped to every room in the house. For my
birthday, surprise me with tickets to the touring Cirque du
Soleil show. In Spain.

Now I know what you’re thinking…

You think I’m spoiled. Greedy. Materialistic. Demanding and
selfish.

Ok, so what’s your point?

Alright, I admit that I’m also happy just walking along the
beach on a starry evening. Curled up together in a hammock. Or
sitting in a Starbucks late at night, talking about politics,
music, and design.

But wouldn’t you agree the Starbucks in Rome might be more fun
than the one in Hackensack? And the beaches in Tahiti might be
a little cooler than the ones in Georgia?

How you feel about all this tells you a lot about your
prosperity consciousness. Whether you believe you are worthy
and deserving of beautiful things, or think they are
ostentatious.

Even more interesting is another scenario…

You will give beautiful things and do wonderful thing to others.
But you won’t give them or do them for yourself. Once again,
these are worthiness issues.

As I did seminars on success, I came to understand something
very important. The reason most people were not reaching high
levels of success was not because they needed skills training.
The skills are pretty simple. In fact, it’s almost mind
boggling how really easy it is to become a millionaire today.

And with all we now know about diet and exercise, optimum health
is so doable. We have progressed so far in mental health, there
is no reason why you can’t enjoy a wonderful and loving
relationship. In short, prosperity and abundance is more
attainable today than it ever was.

And learning how to manifest it has never been more accessible.
Yet why aren’t more people healthy, happy and rich?

Because they won’t let themselves be. It’s not the skills they
haven’t learned. It’s the limiting beliefs they haven’t
eviscerated, and the lack programming they don’t realize is
buried in their subconscious mind.

Wealth and success, happiness and harmony, prosperity and
abundance are all mental. Or more appropriately, can all be
attained using the power of the mind.

Yes I really do believe you were meant to be rich. And I know
that health and happiness is your natural state. Give me a
chance to prove it to you.

The $40 Million Inner Voice

Brooklyn's Clifford Maxwell is living proof you should pay attention to the voices in your head — they could make you $40 million richer.

The retired father of five was riding a bus past his regular lottery outlet two weeks ago when an "inner voice" urged him to get off and purchase a ticket — even though he already had three entries tucked away in his wallet.

Sure enough, a few nights later the 61-year-old former MTA worker watched in stunned disbelief as his lucky seven numbers rolled across the screen — the exact numbers shown on the last of his Quick Pick tickets.

"I am truly blessed," a beaming Maxwell said yesterday. "I was on the bus and an inner voice told me to get off and buy another one. So I did."

Maxwell's impulse buy made him the sole winner of New York Lottery's end-of-year $40 million jackpot — and he broke the news to his astonished children during their Christmas Day breakfast

Tibetan Monks Remote View the Year 2012

Remote viewing Tibetan monks see Extra Terrestrial powers saving the World from destroying itself in 2012

N.K. Subramanium, Special Correspondent

India Daily

Remote viewing is nothing new in Tibetan monasteries. For thousands of years remote viewing in the middle of other spiritual activities have dominated Tibetan culture. What some Indian tourists came to learn from a few Tibetan monasteries under the current Chinese rule is extremely alarming and fascinating.

According to these tourists remote viewers are seeing world powers in the course of self-destruction. They also see that the world will not be destroyed. Between now and 2012 the world super powers will continue to engage in regional wars. Terrorism and covert war will be the main problem. In world politics something will happen in and around 2010. At that time the world powers will threaten to destroy each other.

Between 2010 and 2012, the whole world will get polarized and prepare for the ultimate dooms day. Heavy political maneuvers and negotiations will take place with little progress.

In 2012, the world will start plunging into a total destructive nuclear war.

And at that time something remarkable will happen, says, Buddhist monk of Tibet. Supernatural divine powers will intervene. The destiny of the world is not to self-destruct at this time.

Strange News from the Disaster Zone

In the latest issue of Mind Power News I've compiled some of the strangest news from the tragic disaster zone in Asia, including a few very fascinating news articles about the ability of animals to sense natural disasters. Check out all of these stories, including links back to the original sources, by clicking here.

DID 'SIXTH SENSE' SAVE THE ANIMALS? While the death toll in the tragic south Asian disaster continues to soar, scientists are trying to figure out how the animals escaped massive casualties. This issue of Mind Power News looks at the unique power of animals to predict natural disasters.

ANIMALS CAN PREDICT EARTHQUAKES UP TO A WEEK IN ADVANCE: Engineers in Anshan, China, believe so strongly that animals can predict earthquakes up to a week in advance, that zoo keepers at the city zoo are now reporting to the seismological bureau whenever they find the animals acting strangely.

HISTORICAL ANECDOTES OF ANIMALS SENSING NATURAL DISASTERS: In 373 B.C., historians recorded that animals, including rats, snakes and weasels, deserted the Greek city of Helice in droves just days before a quake devastated the place. Accounts of similar animal anticipation of earthquakes have surfaced across the centuries since.

90,000 CHINESE SAVED BY ANIMAL QUAKE PREDICTION: In China on February 4, 1975, the people of Haicheng were successfully evacuated right before a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the school! The decision to evacuate the city was taken primarily because of the strange behavior of animals.

REMOTE VIEWING PRIMITIVE TRIBES MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND DURING TSUNAMI: The rescue teams are also finding interesting information from these untouched tribal people – they could view and hear the Tsunami coming and they moved to higher grounds way before the Tsunami came shattered the islands.

DREAMS OF FLOOD SAVE COUPLE: A premonition about floods led an Israeli couple living in an international community in southern India to build their house on stilts -- a move which saved them from the fury of the tsunami that tore through the region this week.

EX-KING SAYS ASTROLOGER SAVED CAMBODIA FROM TSUNAMI: Former Cambodian king Norodom Sihanouk says an astrologer warned him that an "ultra-catastrophic cataclysm" would strike, but that his country would be spared if proper rituals were conducted.

Four Simple Steps to Fail-Proof Resolutions

By Alan Tutt
Author of
Keys to Power Prosperity
and Creator of the Keys To Power Mastery System

Every year, millions of people start to think about ways to make
life better, and resolve to do something about it. Unfortunately
most of them set themselves up for failure before they even
begin, because they don't build a proper foundation from which to
build.

The most common resolutions are things like 'lose weight', or
'stop smoking', or 'start a new business'. Sometimes the
resolution will be something like 'make new friends', or 'win the
______ award', or 'spend more time with family'.

In short, resolutions are decisions to reach specific goals.
Here are some ideas to keep in mind to insure the success of your
resolutions.

1. Positive Expectation
People who succeed with resolutions are those who expect to
succeed. Those who expect to fail won't even make the effort to
move forward.

One of the best ways to build positive expectation is to find
evidence that others have succeeded in what you're wanting to
accomplish. This is one reason the "Chicken Soup for the Soul"
books have become so popular. They contain hundreds of short
stories of people succeeding in all areas of life.

Another excellent means of building positive expectation is to
simply imagine yourself succeeding. Scientific studies have
proven that the inner mind cannot tell the difference between a
real event and one that is vividly imagined.

If you want to have the feeling that you've succeeded in
something before, all you have to do is to vividly imagine
succeeding. Then, whenever you think about that goal, your inner
mind will recall the vivid experience of succeeding, and you'll
have positive expecatation of future success.

2. Have A Clear Plan For Acheivement
If you wanted to take a trip to a place you've never been, would
you just jump in the car and guess your way there? Or would you
take a minute to look at a map to see which roads will get you to
your destination?

Having a map to follow will always get you to your destination
quicker than simply guessing which way to go at each turn in the
road. The same is true when pursuing any goal.

Maps are made by people who have been there. Map-makers are
common in all walks of life. There are map-makers who have
succeeded in business and write books to show others the way.
There are map-makers who have succeeded in human relationships
who give seminars to help others avoid the pitfalls that await
the unwary.

Before you begin to pursue your resolutions, find a map and
follow it.

3. Reward Yourself For Succeeding
Few people will work hard when they don't see a payoff at the
end, and with a lot of resolutions, the payoff isn't as clear as
it should be. For instance, losing weight is about a lot more
than seeing a lower number on the scale. Starting your own
business is about a lot more than just getting away from a boss.

In all cases, you will succeed easier if you can see clear and
definite rewards for your efforts. And when you're working for a
larger goal, you sometimes need small rewards for each checkpoint
along the way.

To be effective, rewards must be something you truly want, such
as a vacation, or a new outfit, or even a hot fudge sundae. Just
keep your rewards in proportion to the successes acheived, and
you will be fine.

4. Get Help When You Need It
Most of us need a little help along the way to success. This
help could be a mentor who knows what to do to reach the goal, or
it could be a tool that will amplify your efforts and give you an
advantage.
